Thermostat AC not working

Hello community,
I recently purchased the Wzye thermostat because I had a great experience with the garage controller and thought it would be good to have the smart thermostat as well.

I was able to follow the instructions for setting up the thermostat (although I did have to retry the ‘select network’ step multiple times). I eventually got the thermostat installed and was able to control it through the app and everything.

I ran my test to confirm Heat worked.
I ran my test to confirm Cool worked (initially I thought)

After several minutes later, I realized that the AC was still running and thought that was odd because it didn’t take that long to cool before using the old thermostat. I then realized that my outside unit wasn’t running and finally determined that it was only running the fan.

Eventually after several hours troubleshooting, I reinstalled my old thermostat.

I really want to keep the unit but I need some help from the community at this point on what might be the problem.

@speadie, I see that you’ve helped quite a few folks out in this area. Can you provide some guidance?

This is what my furnace control board setup looks like:

And this is what my current old thermostat looks like:

Ignore the green wire labeled ‘C’. That was placed there after installing the C-Wire adapter based on the Wzye installer guide.

I’m hoping someone can tell me how I should wire up the Wzye thermostat when I attempt to install it again.

Thanks

Can anyone help with this?

To find out why the fan was running constantly, I would need to see how you hooked up the C wire adapter…

it should have been hooked up like this:

@speadie, thanks for getting back to me. I didn’t take a picture of the wiring after I hooked up the C-Wire adapter.

If I’m following your diagram correctly. It seems I should have connected both the C-Adapter C-Wire and the furnace C-Wire together. I only used the C-Wire from the adapter to the connection for the furnace (because the Wyze installer guide instructed me to).

As for the other wires, they were connected as you have diagramed (from the furnace to the C-Adapter).

The Yellow-Red (Y A/C - Y Therm) wire was connected to the C-Adapter Y slot.
The White (W) (non-C-Wire from image) was connected to the C-Adapter W slot.
The Red (R) (standalone) wire was connected to the C-Adapter R slot.
The Green (G) wire was connected to the C-Adapter G slot.

The connections from the wall to the Wyze thermostat were connected as you have diagrammed.

If my assumption is correct about your diagram, I’ll try to hook this up again tomorrow.

Thanks

@speadie, after looking at your diagram further. It looks like you’re also suggesting that I separate the Yellow-Red wire and do the following:

Run the Yellow wire to the Y slot on the C-Adapter.
Leave the Red wire connected to the Furnace in addition, connect the C-Adapter Y wire to the Y connector on the Furnace.

Thanks

yes, the air conditioner compressor needs to stay connected to the furnace board and not be connected to the c-adapter. Y and C should have 2 wires connected to them at the furnace board, one set goes to the C adapter, and the other goes to your air conditioner compressor. R, W, and G should only have the wires that are permanently connected to the c adapter connected to them.

Thanks @speadie, I’ll give that a shot.

@speadie, thanks for all your help. I was able to get back to this and reinstall it using the wire diagram that you provided and now my AC and Heating is working.

THANK YOU!
