Thermometer NOT attached to thermostat needed

I wanted to submit this on the Wishlist, but it’s apparently closed… I’d love to see a thermometer NOT connected to a thermostat. I live in a drier climate, so I have a swamp cooler and not A/C, so it’s not part of the thermostat. I’d love to be able to know it’s working when I’m not home by having access to a thermometer in the house to check.

LOTS of temperature sensors (with or without dew point / humidity) available from numerous sources. For different purposes, I have over a dozen temperature monitors at my house on three different systems.

Welcome to the Forum, @propangel!

That’s incorrect, and what you’re suggesting seems like this is probably the most relevant existing Wishlist topic:

As with any Wishlist topic, you can visit that one to click or tap the Vote button above the initial post and share your ideas and use cases in the comments to show your support for the product and feature request/suggestions that are important to you.

If you’d like, another Moderator or I could move your post into that topic, but that doesn’t automatically vote for you. You’d still need to visit that topic to tap or click the Vote button. You can also just comment there yourself with detail about your request and search the Wishlist category for other topics of interest to you.

Piggybacking on what @K6CCC mentioned, one of the things I really like about my Echo Dot is that I can use the Alexa app to see the temperature in the room where that device is located. That might be an option for you to look into, and Amazon periodically puts things like that on sale (which is one of the reasons I bought it).

Note that does not apply to the older Version 1 - 3 (hockey puck shaped) Echo Dot devices.

Yeah, my Echo Pop also doesn’t have a thermometer visible in the Alexa app. This Echo Dot is a 5th Gen.

@Crease The wishlist is read-only meaning closed for me to make a suggestion. Therefore, I am not incorrect. Regardless, you can see this is my first time posting and I was just asking for something I thought would be nice to have.

Thank you for the other suggestions. I was hoping for something that wouldn’t involve downloading yet another app.

It isn’t, but you’re currently unable to create a new topic there because of your Trust Level as a new user, which is described in How to Use the Wishlist. Even if you did try to create a new Wishlist topic with this request, a Moderator would very likely merge it into the other topic that I linked above, and which I see that you’ve now voted for, so thank you for that! :+1:

I understand what you mean about not wanting to download another app, too. My suggestion about Alexa was to make you aware of that as a possible option in case it’s something you’re already using. If you’re not an Alexa user, then I wouldn’t rush out to buy a particular Echo device just to get a thermometer. There are other solutions for that, as @K6CCC mentioned.

I don’t know if you use any Wyze cameras, but some Cam users have been requesting this in the Wishlist for a while:

I have several Wyze cameras indoor and outdoor. I never would have thought to ask about adding that feature to a camera but it isn’t a horrible idea. I don’t use Alexa, but now I will have to research if any Google devices possibly do this.

I didn’t really start using Alexa until a few years ago when they ran a couple of combo specials that included an Echo and a Matter-enabled smart bulb. That’s how I ended up with an Echo Pop and an Echo Dot, and I use both of those, but I mostly talk to Google Assistant on Google Home devices (minis and a display hub) for a lot of home automation stuff. Having the temperature available on the 5th Gen Echo Dot makes me want that same feature on my Google Home devices, but I’m not aware of any off the top of my head that natively support that. :man_shrugging:
