I know there are other posts like this, but I see so little response from Wyze that either acknowledges or addresses the problems they have with the iOS version of their app. Apple has a near 60% market share in the US and Canada, so for this app to have the problems it does just feels… sloppy? The biggest issues are:
Live feeds not loading properly- gets stuck on step 1, and the app has to be force closed & restarted to fix. This just started with the most recent update a few weeks ago, but it is both persistent and obnoxious lol
Audio chops in/out on ALL events recorded to the cloud. On every camera.
The biggest, baddest bug of them all - trying to share events, either directly from the app or through text/imessage, very literally bricks the iPhone’s ability to send any kind of media message. The device has to be hard reset every single time this happens. This app has a bug so bad it BREAKS Apple live services. That’s… impressive, and I’m honestly shocked Apple hasn’t forced Wyze to fix the issue yet. That seems to be very counter to the QC Apple is so proud and protective of with what they do/don’t allow on the app store.
For what it’s worth, I keep an old Samsung Note around as a camera monitor, and it doesn’t have any of these issues at all. I like Wyze, I am a fan of Wyze, I will continue to spend money needlessly on Wyze products. That said, the fact that their iOS app is in such a poor state is something the company needs to be called out on. The iMessage bug, in particular, is something that I just don’t understand how either company can tolerate in good faith.
I want to attempt to duplicate your report. I primarily live in camp Android, but I have a forced on me by work @#$%^& iPhone that I despise and use as little as possible. So please tell me exactly what steps you take that bricks the phone (assume I don’t speak Apple).
Either sharing videos directly from the app, or downloading them first and sending them through imessage/text. It’s not every video, it’s not all the time. I cannot figure out any rhyme or reason to what causes, but there are many other posts on these forums with users having similar issues. The only thing I’ve been able to figure out is that I can test which videos will/won’t break media messaging on my phone by trying to send them through something like Facebook Messenger there first. If they’ll send in Messenger, I can safely text/iMessage them. If they won’t send through Facebook, it’s a no go and I have to screen record if I want to share.
You have not told me what part two of the test is. I successfully send a Wyze event via text message from my &^%$#@ iPhone to my Android. What is the part that is supposed to fail - sometimes (remember, I don’t speak Apple).
It will fail in the process of sending. Instead of the message going through it’s just a long delay before it ultimately says “message failed to send” - that is consistent whether it’s trying to send a standard RCS/SMS text message or an iMessage.
I have the same issue with live feeds just getting stuck at random frames, I suspect a caching issue. I have to force close (iphone 16 pro, ios 18 up to date) and then it’ll refresh.
Also, this has been around since I’ve used it but the rewind/pause/fast forward buttons, even the 3 capture, video, and mute buttons on the right, they are way too literal, you have to touch the white part of the button or else it’ll hide the controls. If i push 1mm to either side of the white button, even if it’s the grey part of the 3 button overlay, it’ll hide the buttons. IMO, that is atrocious UX.
if i’m watching a live feed in landscape, I cannot switch to the recorded content without rotating my device to portrait mode, another atrocious UX.
Finally, the events do not work. if i get a notification, i have to wait a few seconds before it will show. if i push a notification, it just takes me to the live feed (recently, it just freezes).
i’m thankful that ipad has landscape view, there have been improvements, but there are still issues that make the UX just atrocious.
Probably max file size. What file sizes are you attempting to send? Facebook Messenger is 100 MB, I think. Text is much smaller, but probably back to 100 MB by the recent switch of most services to RCS.
So 100MB if both devices support it, otherwise smaller?
Not a max file size issue. 12 second clips sometimes will send, and then other times they won’t. It’s pretty maddening. I test by sending through Facebook first. If they’ll go through there, safe to send through imessage. If they won’t go through Messenger, they’ll cause the iphone to brick and need a hard reset to restore MMS messaging services.
I am currently dealing with this now and it’s soooo annoying. It stops me from being able to send any pics or videos on my phone. It happens every few months, and always after a Wyze video fails me.
iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 18. I’ve been using Wyze cams for 5 years and not had many problems until the past few months. Wyze has released a new app version and I’ve not found any acknowledgment of the problem or planned fix. Seriously thinking of going with a new brand.
Now every time I open the app after it has been in the background for more than 2 minutes it will not connect to cameras “Error Code 13” after 30 seconds. During the 30 seconds, it either 1) shows live but a still picture or 2) shows the connecting animation (bouncing dots).
I have submitted logs through the app about 10 times.
I deleted each cam from the app, deleted the app and did a factory reset on all of my cams. Then I set it all back up. It actually fixed the problem for about 2 days. Then it went back to not connecting.
THANK YOU for making me feel sane. I’ve been a long term Wyze subscriber and when I breifly switched to an OLD Android phone I was shocked how much better the Wyze app works on even low spec Android vs my newer iPhones.
I’m up for yearly renewal soon and only thinking of leaving Wyze (which will be a real expense and pain) because I’m so frustrated with the Wyze iOS app’s unreliable nature and lack of progress over the last year or two.
EDIT:
In the meantime I’ve joined the beta testing team, and it was easier than I thought. They don’t even make you sign up with an account, so thanks for the info Crease!
Maybe you should start testing with iphone and hire real IOS software engineer. It should be your priority, i never saw bugs like this in my dev career.
Stream froze while watching and come back to few hours ago.
Speak on microphone : Will completly kill the cam, need to go to my child room and unplug cam.
Those are my 2 main problems, even if its fix somehow ill never buy again and pay a sub again. You had a network outage for a day too and cameras stopped working. It’s on my network it should work anyway.
Downloading events on an iPhone (iOS 18.4.1 and before) with 14+GB free space often do not finish. Often see a “Downloading … Cancel” window with a green progress bar all the way to the right. Sharing function fails saves also. Have a Cam Plus subscription so I should be able to download any event from the last 14(?) days. Wyze Video Doorbell Pro only stores videos/events in the cloud so the only way to save events are using the download feature which does not work often now. Wyze support claimed not to know about the issue after my following all suggestions to try to get downloads working. My dog passed and I want to save videos of his approximately last two weeks but finding that the only method I have left to copy events only accessible in the cloud is to use the Wyze Web portal and take cell phone vidoes of the events. Very inconvenient and no audio on their Web portal. Initially I thought the issue was only with the Wyze Video Doorbell Pro videos but discovered the issue is with events from all of my cameras. Last night I thought the issue may be related to older events because I was able to download a few recent events on my iPhone but after a few successes the downloads stopped working. Sometimes rebooting iPhone helped but usually not. The window is closing when I still have access to events of my passed dog and I am frustrated and extremely angry with Wyze. Any suggestions community, or Wyze?
I don’t think it is the iOS app. I downloaded three videos today from the events page, one from a V4 cam and two from a V3 cam and I posted two of them here on Captured on WYZE. I have iOS 18.4.1, iOS WYZE app 3.4.5 (9) on iPhone SE2020.
