I know there are other posts like this, but I see so little response from Wyze that either acknowledges or addresses the problems they have with the iOS version of their app. Apple has a near 60% market share in the US and Canada, so for this app to have the problems it does just feels… sloppy? The biggest issues are:
Live feeds not loading properly- gets stuck on step 1, and the app has to be force closed & restarted to fix. This just started with the most recent update a few weeks ago, but it is both persistent and obnoxious lol
Audio chops in/out on ALL events recorded to the cloud. On every camera.
The biggest, baddest bug of them all - trying to share events, either directly from the app or through text/imessage, very literally bricks the iPhone’s ability to send any kind of media message. The device has to be hard reset every single time this happens. This app has a bug so bad it BREAKS Apple live services. That’s… impressive, and I’m honestly shocked Apple hasn’t forced Wyze to fix the issue yet. That seems to be very counter to the QC Apple is so proud and protective of with what they do/don’t allow on the app store.
For what it’s worth, I keep an old Samsung Note around as a camera monitor, and it doesn’t have any of these issues at all. I like Wyze, I am a fan of Wyze, I will continue to spend money needlessly on Wyze products. That said, the fact that their iOS app is in such a poor state is something the company needs to be called out on. The iMessage bug, in particular, is something that I just don’t understand how either company can tolerate in good faith.
I want to attempt to duplicate your report. I primarily live in camp Android, but I have a forced on me by work @#$%^& iPhone that I despise and use as little as possible. So please tell me exactly what steps you take that bricks the phone (assume I don’t speak Apple).
Either sharing videos directly from the app, or downloading them first and sending them through imessage/text. It’s not every video, it’s not all the time. I cannot figure out any rhyme or reason to what causes, but there are many other posts on these forums with users having similar issues. The only thing I’ve been able to figure out is that I can test which videos will/won’t break media messaging on my phone by trying to send them through something like Facebook Messenger there first. If they’ll send in Messenger, I can safely text/iMessage them. If they won’t send through Facebook, it’s a no go and I have to screen record if I want to share.
You have not told me what part two of the test is. I successfully send a Wyze event via text message from my &^%$#@ iPhone to my Android. What is the part that is supposed to fail - sometimes (remember, I don’t speak Apple).
It will fail in the process of sending. Instead of the message going through it’s just a long delay before it ultimately says “message failed to send” - that is consistent whether it’s trying to send a standard RCS/SMS text message or an iMessage.
I have the same issue with live feeds just getting stuck at random frames, I suspect a caching issue. I have to force close (iphone 16 pro, ios 18 up to date) and then it’ll refresh.
Also, this has been around since I’ve used it but the rewind/pause/fast forward buttons, even the 3 capture, video, and mute buttons on the right, they are way too literal, you have to touch the white part of the button or else it’ll hide the controls. If i push 1mm to either side of the white button, even if it’s the grey part of the 3 button overlay, it’ll hide the buttons. IMO, that is atrocious UX.
if i’m watching a live feed in landscape, I cannot switch to the recorded content without rotating my device to portrait mode, another atrocious UX.
Finally, the events do not work. if i get a notification, i have to wait a few seconds before it will show. if i push a notification, it just takes me to the live feed (recently, it just freezes).
i’m thankful that ipad has landscape view, there have been improvements, but there are still issues that make the UX just atrocious.
