Status of Cam Plus Lite (CPL)

Glad it worked out.

Your call on opening an NIB camera.

If it is easy enough and you are concerned, you could.

Fair enough. I’ll just reiterate:

Wyze please make your Cam Plus Lite policy going forward SPECIFIC and KNOWN

so that all CPL subscribers (and those with yet-to-be-registered qualifying cams) can make informed decisions on how they may proceed.

Thanks so much, @Seapup, for reconstituting lost comments from original thread into this new topic. You rock. :+1:

Exactly my sentiment.

@habib @StevenA

My complaint concerns the manner in which they are discontinuing it.

It’s not ‘stand-up’ (honest & honorable.)

What do you gents think about that? :slightly_smiling_face:

Totally agreed, no question about it. Sleazy practice to say the least.

EDIT: That is why I would never buy their subscription ever again, no matter how discounted it is or how many cameras I have.

The availability of service (now CPL) was contingent on supporting revenue (monthly contributions). It’s still available for legacy customers with eligible cam models. It’s sad that CPL isn’t available for late model cams, but understandable to me.

Let me express two separate viewpoints here.

  1. Poor communication on upcoming changes to CPL- Earlier this year I bought my brother and sister v3 cameras. My brother signed up for CPL right away and activated his v3. My sister waited several weeks and in that time no new CPL signups were possible. If I had known this I would have told both to create a CPL account immediately.

  2. CPL was advertised as “Name your price including Zero”. It makes business sense for Wyze to focus their efforts on higher paying customers than a users paying a lower price or free.

If I am wrong please correct me. I don’t believe Wyze made a CPL change announcement like they did for changes to the App.

Found this from Wyze stating you can use Lite, but only if you signed up before March 2022:

Totally understandable, they need a revenue stream. However, they offered the service and we accepted it. Heck, we even went above and beyond and subscribed for the Unlimited plan, their cash cow. When we wanted to move cameras back to CPL, they denied that to us. We were forced to cancel the service (unlimited) to find out that we can’t do that until the subscription expires. To me that is shady business.

You nailed it brother!

I think that’s a separate issue. Definitely a horrible move on their part.

I moved all my cameras back to CamPlus Lite…just had to cancel Unlimited first.

We shouldn’t have to cancel to move from one service to another. It seems counterproductive to Wyze revenue. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Agreed. But Wyze really, really wants everyone to cancel Lite and move to Unlimited. The website asked me over and over if I wanted to cancel Lite since I had Unlimited.

I don’t think it is a separate issue.

You were lucky, if I remember correctly you were close to service expiry. I have to wait for almost a year as I enrolled and got burned right after that.

Tell me about it, but they found a way think

That goes without saying, they need that revenue stream and I am all for it. I want them to be around, but if they gave us a way around it they should honour it and not be sneaky about it.

You are correct. My Unlimited subscription ended in September and I was able to move all my cameras after that.

I don’t know how true that statement is. You can probably find new users signing up for Cam Plus Lite in the forum after March 2022.

This was the previous support page for Cam Plus Lite back in April 2024:

IRRC, they quietly made changes sometime in April 2024 to not allow new users to sign up for Cam Plus Lite. I remember it because they had a sale going on in Canada for V3 at CAD $22.5 and some users reported they couldn’t find the Cam Plus Lite anywhere on their service page. Afterwards, Wyze updated the support page in May 2024 to reflect this change.

It is possible it could have been even earlier…maybe in Feb 2024? That’s when Wyze made significant changes to their backend (not allowing to switch from Unlimited to Lite) and revamping their Web Portal and the entire the checkout system too.

Just an update…I purchased three new V3 cameras which arrived a couple of days ago. I unboxed and added one to my account. I was able to add it to CamPlus Lite as well.
