IIRC, Gwen, when she was a Community Manager staff member, shared in a fireside chat (don’t know what it was called, an intimate confab among aficionados and some staff) that Wyze would like to discontinue CP Lite as it was costing them money versus breaking even (all told.)
Since this has been public knowledge for awhile, it is natural to assume that Wyze would be directing limited resources away from assuring that CP Lite anomalies be addressed and toward the Cam Plus/AI service and its subscribers, its cash cow.
I’ve documented the anomalies I’ve been experiencing. They have piled up and I have no confidence that they will be addressed in the near future as Wyze has a full and growing plate of issues to address as they plow their way into the future.
I have no idea what (app, device firmware, back-end, whatever) or what combination of elements is responsible for what I and others are experiencing.
But it is not unreasonable – in the absence of the issues being addressed and/or Wyze informing customers of the status and their plans – for CP Lite customers to speculate about the foundation of their troubles.
I have v2s and v3s only so no misunderstanding there. I appreciate your offer to help.

I don’t believe Wyze is above practicing a little social engineering as described. What the poor girlfriend loses is TIME she could better spend developing a new relationship than hanging and hoping with the uncommunicative old one gone cold.
I could see this not being incorrect but not being wholly factual versus directing more resources to it with the artificial intelligence path going the way of most things currently And the EOL of devices being within a couple of years I’ll say within 4 to 5 I could definitely see them allowing the devices to more or less expire in their support but not directly contributing to the removal of CPL.
And as we’ve heard from employees numerous times through firesides and AMA’s and such, They are on track to do some cool things with AI hopefully soon
More and more are moving to newer cameras and along with them CamPlus (Unlimited). When you subscribe to Unlimited you can’t assign any cameras to Lite. I see this as the way Wyze hopes to sunset Lite.
They could state upfront in a disclaimer (not buried in terms of use or such like) that these devices have a maximum support life of x years, before which company focus will gradually shift toward newer products, and after which support will completely stop.
Ie, we will be less ‘into’ you older product folk each year as time passes, until finally, we will express no interest in you at all.
People who keep things for as long as possible see that quality as a virtue. Companies who have customers like these see them as a burden.
That is me. Cars, computers, everything stays until I can’t repair it or it dies. I’m what my Scotch/Irish wife calls frugal. I just re-purposed 20 older (20 year old) solar panels for a new system. They still work.
Thanks, spamoni. Does this mean my spare/replacement v3s NIB (new-in-box) should be registered post haste so that they are not excluded from CP Lite registration in the future (‘going forward’)?
I think it may work. I have a number of V2s and V3s that I switched BACK to Lite without any problems. They’d been on Unlimited before that. Some are older, some are newer. I think as long as you already have Lite you may be okay.
First let me say I am very happy with Cam Plus Lite (CPL) and Person detection on my five v3 cameras. I rarely get false Person notifications. I am still on App version 2.50.
If Wyze were to completely discontinue CPL, I would try my v3 cameras with no subscription since all have SD cards. If that does not work for me, there are other companies that offer low end and high end cameras with no subscription required.
