Sound notifications sporatic for window cams

My window cams worked great the first week, giving me sound notifications but recently there is no sound notification only a pop up. I checked that the app is allowing all sound notifications and volume is up. Seems the only time I get sound is when I am physically using my phone. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Forum, @susiemac9!

What sound are you trying to use for your Wyze app notifications? If it’s one of the app-provided sounds ( Account âžś Notifications âžś Push Notifications âžś Notification Sound âžś Wyze Sound {#}), then sometimes these can get hosed when the app updates. This experience apparently isn’t unique to the Wyze app and reportedly sometimes happens with other Android apps. The accepted solution seems to be uninstalling/reinstalling the app. For something like that, I generally like to uninstall the app, reboot my phone, reinstall the app, and reboot my phone again. The new installation of the Wyze app should pull down a fresh copy of your profile from your account once you sign in again.

Other things you may want to check on Android:

  • The OS-level notification settings: long-press the Wyze app launcher, then select  App info âžś Notifications, then tap whichever channel shows the highest notification frequency and see what the settings are for that channel. Adjust as necessary.
  • The battery usage settings: long-press the Wyze app launcher, then select  App info âžś App Battery Usage, then consider selecting Unrestricted. Making Notifications More Consistent / Reliable might provide some more context for this.

As I re-read your initial post, I’m curious about a few other things:

  • Are you experiencing this (no sound with notifications) only on Window Cams?
  • Do you use other Wyze Cams?
  • If you use other Wyze Cams, then are those exhibiting the same notification behavior you’re seeing with Window Cams?

I want to make sure that I understand what you’re experiencing and that we’re addressing the right problem. In other words, I want to make sure that this really is an app problem and not a Cam problem.

To second what @crease has said, my notifications have been rock solid since doing two things:

  1. Changing the android settings to use a system sound, not the “app provided sound”
  2. Changing the “running in background” and “battery” settings as mentioned in the post he linked.

App updates, firmware updates, etc now no longer cause me any issues with notifications and I don’t seem to have periods of hours/days where they’re intermittent or non-existent anymore.

You’re welcome, and thanks for taking the time to post an update! :+1:

Just for my own curiosity, which specific step or steps fixed the issue for you?

This is the part of your answer I did was this… “The accepted solution seems to be uninstalling/reinstalling the app. For something like that, I generally like to uninstall the app, reboot my phone, reinstall the app, and reboot my phone again. The new installation of the Wyze app should pull down a fresh copy of your profile from your account once you sign in again.” plus put Battery Usage to Unrestricted

Cool. Thanks for replying! Hopefully that’ll benefit others who come along with the same issue. :+1:

In the past, uninstalling and reinstalling the app would sometimes fix the “no sounds for notifications” issue, and sometimes not (and even when it did, it would stop again at some point). I’d recommend finding an android system sound that you like and change it to use that, I’ve never had it happen again since doing that over a year ago.
