Solar Pan Cam needs pan options settings, automatic pan waypoints like the plug in Pan cams

The regular non-solar one pans every few seconds; this one does not pan to waypoints without manually doing it every time. A trigger won’t work for movement if it’s not pointed at the area. So if something moves on the side of it unless it is panned, it won’t trigger a recording; they don’t pan as the pan cam does. It kinda defeats the purpose of a pan if you have to manually do it. There needs to be an option to choose continuous pan.

Welcome to the Forum, @manderlynn!

If you’re referring to the Pan Scan setting on Cam Pan v3 and Cam Pan v4, then I imagine Solar Cam Pan does not have this setting for the same reason it doesn’t allow Continuous microSD recording unless it’s powered by an appropriate AC adapter in order to maximize battery life. I could see some utility for allowing Solar Cam Pan to have a Pan Scan feature if it’s powered by an external source, but I haven’t yet seen anyone request this in the Wishlist.

Solar Cam Pan does have a 360 Scan control, and that can approximate how some users set Waypoints, but that’s a one-time/on-demand thing, and, again, I imagine that’s what Wyze came up with as a way to allow live view area scans while trying to preserve battery.

Or, alternatively, allow a detection by another camera to trigger the pan camera to pan to a specific waypoint. If my fixed camera picks up something in my driveway then trigger my front yard pan camera to pan to waypoint #4 that I’ve set in the software because that waypoint includes the driveway. Then the pan camera can track whatever is there.

I understand why they chose not to implement pan scan to conserve battery. I’m thinking that the fix may be to go with the regular pan camera but connect an external solar battery with the necessary capacity. Maybe that’s a good idea for a third party solution.

That’s been suggested in an existing Wishlist topic, and perhaps that list should be expanded to include Solar Cam Pan:

I see that @Seapup added Solar Cam Pan to the list and edited (the quote in) my post above.

My recommendation to visit the Wishlist, comment, and VOTE still stands.:+1:

I’ll go one further. I don’t get the logic on a 360 camera that will only do tracking for persons and not the other standard choices. It doesn’t even track persons unless enabled. If I wanted a stationary cam I could have ordered that one.

I believe the person tracking feature for Solar Cam Pan is inherent to the device itself and doesn’t require a subscription. I don’t have any of the Cam Floodlight products, but my understanding is that Cam Floodlight Pro does something similar with local/on-board person and vehicle detection with its Edge AI. There’s a different Wishlist topic requesting additional tracking options for Solar Cam Pan:

All four of the motion categories are already enabled.

Do you mean that for detection/recording (in Event Recording ➜ Smart Detection Events ➜ Customize Recordings) or something else? That’s not the same as tracking, which is why I mentioned the existing Wishlist request above.

Cam Pan v4 has Smart Tracking which allows a user to define a priority order for Person, Pet, and Vehicle tracking. Perhaps you’re requesting something like that in your new topic? If so, then that topic is probably a good fit for merging with the Wishlist topic I noted previously, and I’d encourage you to vote for that.

Thanks. That request is similar to mine. The motion detection is fine but it does not initiate tracking. I also have a Pan Cam v4 that works exactly like I think the Solar should on tracking.

You’re welcome. I’ve gone ahead and merged your other topic based on this response here. :+1:

Please go vote for Solar Cam Pan Vehicle & Animal Tracking (like Smart Tracking on Cam Pan v4)! You can do that by scrolling to the top of that topic to tap or click the Vote button above the initial post. Your comment in support of the feature has already been added to that topic, and it’s still important to vote in order to demonstrate community interest to Wyze.

I keep hearing this preserve battery thing on the Solar Pan Cam. I have NEVER seen my solar pan cam battery below 99%. Wyze needs to use up some of this battery with features. God forbid the battery gets down below 70 or 80 percent. It will charge back up.

It has been overcast here for a couple of days and its morning time and I just checked my battery level and it’s sitting at 100%.

It’s like having a V8 engine in a sports car and never getting out of the driveway.

I don’t speak for Wyze or their design decisions, but I would guess that they’re trying to maximize the power reserve to minimize customer frustration. I’ve gotten fairly aggressive with the settings (maxing out the Detection Range, Motion Sensitivity, and Maximum Video Length with No Cooldown, Spotlight Brightness High, and recording to microSD) and have seen the battery drop on a stretch of cold, overcast days, so it can happen even with the currently available options. Last night I was even seeing the spotlight turn on when the Cam was supposed to be off, which makes me think it’s still got some glitches to be worked out, because unexpected things like that will eat some power. The little solar panel is impressive with it’s ability to keep this thing going, though.

Even though I wouldn’t expect to be able to do continuous microSD recording while this thing is being powered by solar + battery, I still think that it should have a time lapse feature.

Time lapse would be nice.

Even if the camera could be programmed to just sweep every 30 minutes or an hour.

It just seems like its capable of so much more.

I wish Wyze would allow the solar cams to schedule turning on and off continuous recording? Or even better, if the battery got below a certain percentage point it would pause continuous recording and send you a notification that continuous recording has been paused until the battery charges back up.

I think Wyze development team is stuck in Gen 1 battery cam mentality from a software perspective. Even my battery cam pros with a solar panel hardly get below 98%.

Yeah, so go vote for it.:+1:

That’s in another Wishlist topic:

I see you’ve already voted in that topic.:+1:
