Scheduled Maintenance - 2/8/23 12:00 AM PT

Wow, it’s like the entirety of Wyze is being shutdown and going offline. I wonder who was using Lastpass to store the keys to the kingdom.

I’ll take scheduled downtime over unscheduled downtime every time!
Thanks for alerting us!

For which users? Day time varies by location and it seems Wyze has users worldwide.

This scheduled outage will be at 12:00 noon in Dubai.

If there is an misfortune during maintenance that will requires more days. Any Plan B from Wyze?

I’m sure plan B would be that if something went wrong to put the old server image back online and figure out what went wrong with the intended update that they almost definitely tested on a sandbox successfully already and should’ve worked fine (though probably not with the same load -it should scale fine if the rest was tested).

There really shouldn’t be much of a risk IMO, and I don’t expect that, but that seems like a reasonable thing that would be done as a backup,

Can’t believe that you don’t have redundant servers . As critical as this is now that your services include security . I would hope (assume) you would have redundant servers you could switch to and make the maintenance on one server at a time. Glad I don’t subscribe to any of these home security services . I would demand my money back , . Even simple web servers have redundancy . What are you doing Wyze ?? … not smart … not Wyze …

It really does beg the question of what required such an extensive system-wide update. If this was related to a security issue, I hope that Wyze will be transparent about that after the update and the issue is resolved.

There is a concept of clusters servicing multiple locations and geo. Upgrades are performed on one cluster at a time, with fallback from other clusters.

Does Wyze not have this for services? Is it a single SERVER architecture which needs to go down for global service? If Yes - this is a very sad state.

If Wyze does have it with fault tolerant high redundancy cluster setup, why this maintenance at this time? Why cannot it be Local Noon Time for each Geo location?

Can someone from Wyze answer it, unless there is something of a serious security patching that needs to happen at the same time… more information please!!!

I don’t believe it is directly about security. They indicated in various public messages that it is an “Upgrade” --with some mentioning an upgrade to the “cloud infrastructure” and a “server” upgrade, which seems to be related to improved performance, user experience, and things like that. They have not specified much more beyond the fact that these are upgrades. I like upgrades.

I am not speaking for Wyze in any way, but they have also been telling us since last year that there are some really cool improvements coming to their Rules engine, as well that they are working on significant improvements to their cloud experience. It seems half the fix-it-friday reports are usually related to the cloud, so this must be to help address that and improve that experience like everyone keeps asking for. Those are my guesses…but again, I’m not speaking for Wyze, just things I am guessing based on things they’ve indicated in the past.

Geez…and if they didn’t send the notification, there’d be an uproar because no one would know. No one is going to be happy.

The scheduled maintenance is now underway.

Jason finally found a good excuse to be working late at night again without Gwendolyn chasing him off with a spray bottle telling him not to work after hours. :joy:

Yep, this is an allowable reason.

An hour and a half into this update, I’ve checked repeatedly, and nothing ever stopped working. I checked cameras, I checked cloud events (I’ve had events every minute), I checked the HMS, I checked random other devices… No downtime on anything.

Update: Regarding System Maintenance

Hey friends,

We successfully completed a large portion of the maintenance tonight. Your devices may have been offline between 12:00 AM and 12:15 AM Pacific. There is another part planned for tomorrow but the customer impact is expected to be minimal.

Your Wyze services and devices should be back online and working normally. Thank you for your patience during this process.

If you continue to experience issues, please contact our support team.

Best,
Your friends at Wyze

I think we’re done here.

Will the maintenance tonight fix the stuttering video?
Thank you

I’ve only been here about 4 years. I’ve had a real security system at my Mississippi house since 2010, only outages for full house power outages.

Wyze should remove the word “security” from all their camera products and just go back to referring to them as an inexpensive ip cam.

The stuttering video is a camera firmware issue not related to the System Maintenance. I still have a v3 camera on firmware 4.36.10.3406 that still jumps or skips. Pulling the power cord fixes it for a couple of days.
