Scale Ultra, Google Health Support?

Hi,

Are there any plans to bring Google Health syncing to the Wyze Scale Ultra? Fitbit is no longer, so it would be nice to work with its replacement.

I don’t have this product, but I was under the impression that it already had Health Connect compatibility as noted in this image from its product page (which has been changed from its original design and still says “Google Fit” in the banner but also says “Health Connect” and shows that logo below):

I think there’s been some confusion and discussion about that elsewhere in the Forum, though, and I’m pinging @carverofchoice for a better answer and more detail about what actually works with that device.

I can clear up some misunderstanding due to recent changes from Google. There are a few terms to understand now:

  • [Android] Health Connect
    • This is the default health tracker on all Android phones. It replaces Google Fit, according to original discussion on the matter.
  • Health AKA Google Health
    • This is a separate new app recently launched. It takes the place of the “Fitbit” app. In fact, the Fitbit app automaticall updated to now show as “Health” even though the package name is still “com.fitbit.FitbitMobile”. Google just did a whole renovation of the app to make it seem more general so more people would start using it instead of thinking they had to have a Fitbit device for the app to have any relevance to them. Technically this is more of a replacement for Google Fit than Health Connect, but the Health Connect API is separate.
  • Google Fit and Fitbit technically no longer exist for all intents and purposes. Google replaced Google Fit with Health Connect and Fitbit with Google Health. We’re just playing semantics now. Based on Google SOPs, the terms will probably all change in a couple of months again. :upside_down_face:

It’s a little confusing but in some ways Google Fit is deprecated and transitioned to Health Connect. But Health Connect was not very User Friendly like Google Fit used to be, so now Google is trying to Generalize Fitbit to take over as the Google Fit replacement and are now calling it Health or Google Health and making it more similar to what Google Fit was like before.

Don’t worry, by the end of the year Google will totally switch all of this 4 more times with new deprecation and names and decrees about Health stuff. :sweat_smile: So it’s understandable there is some confusion.

Back to answering the question…Google Health (Formerly Fitbit, and which app still has the Fitbit package name, but the title and everything else just says “Health” now). It should still be supported and working the same. I just checked with my newer model which has the same settings options as the ultra (showing Health Connect and Fitbit) and the Fitbit integration is still sending everything to Google Health as far as I can tell. There is a margin for error though since I also have it syncing to Health Connect and Health Connect syncs to Fitbit/Health on it’s own too, so it’s possible that my data being in Fitbit AKA Google Health is because it’s syncing from Health Connect instead…but then that is a reasonable workaround for you to make sure it shows up in Google Health (Fitbit) too…just tell it to sync your scale data to Health Connect and to Fitbit, then Tell Google Health (Fitbit) to also sync with Health Connect. One way or the other you’re guaranteed to get all your Wyze Scale data into Google Health (Fitbit).

Having said that, it is a good point that since “Fitbit” is a deprecated name, Wyze needs to update all their advertising, packaging, and wording in the app to remove the word “Fitbit” and rename it to “Google Health” for the next couple of months until Google changes their minds again. :sweat_smile:
