Recommend my next camera

I have one Wyze Outdoor Cam (original) covering my driveway, because we previously had a really crappy neighbor that shared our driveway and kept hitting our building with his car, AND because we were having packages delivered to the garage door area. It works well - my only problem is that it keeps prompting me to buy CamPlus even though I already have CamPlus connected to that camera.

Because a delivery person left a package smack-dab in the middle of my garage door and I ran it over, we are now having packages delivered to our front door. We have a steep sidewalk that runs right next to the house up to the front door, where we have a screen porch with a power outlet on it.

I want an easy weather-resistant camera that will now monitor package deliveries there. It’s around the house from the Outdoor cam and its base, so I don’t think they can share a base. But I don’t want to have to screw around with a lot of power/network wiring to install it.

What’s my best affordable choice?

A V3 or V3 Pro if you have power available, there is just a power adapter and one wire cable. If it is more than 5 feet or so from the outlet you can get an extension cable 5 feet for about $6.00 or a 20 foot one for $7.99 from WYZE. Put a good quality high endurance SD card in the camera 128GB or 256GB and set it to record continuous. There is only one other battery cam and that would be the WYZE Battery Cam Pro which I do not have and have never used.

Please explain (like I’m five) why I want to record continuous. I really only want to pick up the motion of people walking up to my front door.

I’d say an OG, V3, or even V3pro. Those are listed in order of price with OG being the most inexpensive. These are all outdoor rated cameras.

The mentioned cams connect to your wifi network, not the Wyze base station. The only cams that connect to he base station are the WCO v1 and the WCO v2.

Having a SD card in the camera that’s recording is a nice backup to cam plus cloud recording. It’s a set it and forget it type thing that will help if cam plus missed something for whatever reason.

On the plug in cameras set to continuous record the camera records everything 24 hours a day until it is full the starts recording over the oldest file. Depends on what size card you use to record 24/7. You can go to playback on the app to review what was recorded. I think this card has been in the V3 Pro camera for almost two weeks or more. It is easy to set up, just go to advanced settings, set recording to continuous and leave it there. You can go to manage SD card to see how it is doing. Notice continuous is a white color which is what I am using. I do not have an OG camera so I can’t comment but other members like them also.

I also have the same question. Why set to record continuous?
If it’s always writing to the SD card, the card wouldn’t last long.

When the card fills up, it overwrites the oldest videos. Depending on your SD card size and quality settings, you could save from a day or so to more than a week.

That’s why I always recommend high endurance SD cards. They are made to handle the high write rewrite cycles

The 256GB cards I am using state they are built to last 140,000 hours. 140000 Hours is 5833 Days and 8 Hours .

The smaller 128GB card is good also.
Long enough for me

I have a Wyze OG wifi covering my front yard (inside looking out through window) and got sick of the Live Web disconnects.

For a second camera, for my backyard where I need a camera that pans, I just recently bought a Reolink E1 Outdoor Pro. Cost was much more expensive at $109, but I love their windows client that does not depend on an external Reolink server.
App & Client - Reolink

No subscription. Cam can be completely controlled with the windows client, SD card can be viewed/controlled with web browser. Motion detection/distance much better than the OG.

The E1 Outdoor Pro does have the same issues as the Wyze Cam Pan v3, where it forgets is Monitor Point. Also, the SD Card “Playback” is clunky in my opinion where it is time consuming to quickly locate and see the “events”.

If you have a window near where packages are delivered, you might consider a Wyze regular v3. Here is a link with example pictures of aiming through double pane windows. Also a v3 with work on both Cam Plus and Cam Plus Lite.
