Recent forced change to v2.50.9.512 to v3+ UI

Several of my cameras show not connected in the app version 3+, but until recently I had the ability to keep 2.50.9.512 installed and decline updates and everything worked as it should.

With all the continued issues and negative reviews reported with the new app, you all decided to force the new UI even in v.2.50.9 this past week, and what do you know, now several cameras are consistently showing not connected or have poor connections or much longer connection times than the old app. One specific cam that has never worked once with the new app/ui is the spotlight cam pro.

I happen to have 3 identical models of the pixel phone, so I could test (which is a shame you all aren’t doing before rolling out apps) the various app versions, and the issue WAS the new app UI programming, 100%! I say was because why in the world would you suddenly force the old app to use the new problematic UI?! I had a workaround, and was happy just not being forced your new problematic app. Really disappointed you killed that and still haven’t fixed the new version.

Are you saying that you’re now seeing Favorites, Devices, and Automations tabs across the top of the v2.50.9.512 app’s Home screen? I’m still running that app version on two devices (one of which can’t update to a v3 app because it’s running a 32-bit version of Android), and I did notice that device and group icons changed recently even in the v2.5x app, presumably as a result of a server-side change to some UI elements, but the remainder of the UI isn’t showing significant change that I can see.

Yes, that’s accurate. At first, I thought it had auto updated the app at first. I didn’t even check, but was so careful never to update accidentally, so I was annoyed, but just uninstalled, went and sideloaded 2.50.9.512 again and then realized it was that app version that was updated after setting back up.

Since it didn’t matter anymore, I updated to the latest app version, just to confirm it still made specific cameras never work. The floodlight pro just happens to be first on my list of 49 wyze devices which has never worked with v3+, so it’s quick to identify the problem still exists.

As an added note, I just checked, 9 of those 49 show offline in v3.2.6 which would be online in 2.50.9.512 prior to this. I could be watching a camera on one phone with 2.50, and the other phone (same model) with 3 would show offline, and it’s been the same since v3 came out.

I can’t speak to that particular camera model, as I don’t own any of the Floodlight Cams, but I’m not seeing a significant performance difference between v2.5x and v3x apps for any of my other cameras (Cam v4s, Cam OGs, Cam OG Telephoto, Cam Pan v3s, Video Doorbell v2). I agree that the updates can be annoying, though, especially when they break things, which is why I use Forum and Discord notifications for app and firmware update announcements, and I’ve had auto update for the Wyze app disabled in Google Play for months. When I see that a new version of something has dropped, I check in with the relevant announcement topic for a week or so to see what new issues are reported before making a decision about updating my own stuff.

I am a tech geek, so I’m on board with that, which is why I’m so beside myself that Wyze applied the new version UI to the old app. Difficult to not update when they make the choice for you. I browsed the Google Play store reviews after updating my review (sorted by most recent) and it’s literally 8/10 are negative now, most mentioning 3.0+ issues and stability and reliability that Wyze used to be.

My experience must differ from yours, then, because I’m not seeing the new UI (with the Favorites, Devices, and Automations tabs) in v2.50.9.512. The layout I’m seeing in the older app version is the same as it’s been for months. :man_shrugging:

I wonder, then, if the timing coincided with me updating to Android 15 and maybe that allowing the change; hadn’t considered the timing of that. You mentioned your old phones weren’t compatible with the new app, so I’m curious of that might be why we’re seeing a difference as well.

I’ll tinker more with that in mind and see if I can figure out a fix. Also sent logs to wyze, in the meantime.

As a general update, I’ve since noticed that devices the app is displaying as offline, I can still access the settings of, which shows the IP, connection strength, firmware, allows checking for updates, so it is connected, just not able to display live stream, and after 3rd connection attempt comes up as disconnected.

Additionally, I have not been able to get the cameras to work, but the few devices connected by the Sense Hub that showed offline I was able to get online resetting the hub and re-adding; previously setup devices did not need to be reconfigured. (Those items as well were able to be seen in their settings as well prior, such as battery life). So, making progress anyhow.

Spoke too soon on the Sense Hub. Went back in the app after my last post and the same exact devices now show offline again: all 3 water sensors and back door. Back to square one.

As an update, I have been able to get all cameras to now live stream again with the most current app version by resetting and setting back up from scratch. Worth noting, this was attempted in earlier v3 app versions without success.

I have yet to get some of the security components to stay connected to the hub with the newest app version. I have reset and reconfigured the hub, which results in a temporary reconnection, but the same equipment becomes disconnected shortly after. Removing and re-adding those devices had not made a difference. I am still able to see the data, such as battery life, via the app, so the hub does see the device and is connected to get that data, but I have yet to find a way to get the app to not display offline.

I recalled I have an old Nexus phone at my office, so after the weekend I’ll grab that and install 2.50.9 and see if on that old phone with the old app I see all devices online still.
