No need to test. I removed the card and the cam still reboots 50 times a day. I’m trying to get support to give me an RMA number. This is just not worth the trouble.
Thank you for the reply. I was wondering if the last update may have changed something that made overwrite when full not possible with larger than 32GB cards. I can skip that test now. ![]()
I had to reformat the 64GB card in one of my Pan Cams a few days ago; it wasn’t recording because the card was full. It “cycles” often, just like it was powered off/on. The other one no longer recognizes the 64GB card.
I’m having this problem too, just by having an SD card installed my pan cams reboot frequently…probably a lot more than 50x a day, I also can’t change/save settings while the SD Card is installed, in my case the SD cards are all purchased from Wyze.
edit: So, I’ve solved the problem for me. I formatted the SD Cards in my PC to fat32, not quick, default cluster size. I then placed January’s Firmware on the SD Cards and re-flashed the Cameras Firmware back to January. Then, using the app I told the cameras to format the SD Cards…It then made the Card recognized chime and everything has been working fine since.
It’s been 17 hours at this point, be sure to report back tomorrow!
Still working fine.
I’ll post again around 10pm pst Saturday
I suggest you wait for two things based on my experience. I had formatted my SD card multiple times trying to resolve my issue, and sometimes it worked for a couple of days before going back to the rebooting behavior.
The other thing I noticed, which others have found is the behavior might occur once the card is filled up, which might take several days to weeks depending on if you use continuous recording or only record events.
There is a lot of info on continuous recording that video cards like the ones in our cams are subjected to. Standard data cards are not designed for it and develop problems.
Here are some resources:
Memory card formatter
Thanks for the info. I’ve never used continuous recording, so I wouldn’t see how this applies to my situation, but I know some users do use it. I did order and install an HE card, but still saw the constant rebooting. I still think there is an issue with the firmware, as I’m not the only one seeing this issue. Waiting on a replacement Cam now, to see if that will work for me.
From what I have experienced so far, just having the card in with the latest firmware was causing the camera to crash/reboot/not allow setting changes/sometimes make old school modem noises/not recording anything to card.
What I tried was NTFS,exFat,fat32 in order, with no firmware change…
exFat and fat32 were recognized but didn’t work, couldn’t format with camera before crash
I then put the January firmware on the card, updated the camera, and tried again to format… it worked, and gave a dingding signifying that the card was recognized.
What all this means is that the above problems were caused by the newest firmware.
At this time all the above problems have gone away, I am currently running in continuous to fill the card up and see if it reboots when full.
If it does this should be correctable by finding an even older firmware that doesn’t have this problem. (I say this because there is a very low probability that 3 brand new cards are all bad)
If it doesn’t the current best solution would be to try the January firmware, and if it still doesn’t work then your sdcard may have gone bad…
Firmware:
contrary to what the graphic says, thats the standard firmware, there is a link to the webcam firmware instructions and download at the top of that page…
And here is the RTSP firmware:
Thanks for your reply. This is EXACTLY what I’ve been seeing. Just having a card inserted no matter what type or how formatted causes the cam to almost constantly reboot. I will try the January Firmware to see if that gets my cam back up and running.
you should also put your cards on fat32 if possible, if not, use exfat and don’t format it with the cam
Just wanted to thank you. As it turns out, it IS the March Firmware update that was causing my Cam v2 all the trouble. I reloaded the cam with the January firmware, and installed the SD card and no more rebooting issues! I even set it to continous recording just to prove out the situation.
Glad it’s working for you.
Odd for me though - I’m running most current FW/ Beta app. using 64gb cards, with no issues.
And FWIW, I’ve never formatted a card … I plug 'em in straight out of the packaging (I use Sandisk Extreme 64gb cards).
Well, from what I’ve observed and tried to say, it’s not the SD cards that are the problem, it’s something in the March firmware that isn’t in the January firmware. If you are using the latest non beta firmware with the beta app then I’m gonna guess the newest firmware adds something that the non beta app doesn’t like but the beta app has no problems with.
Oh, and another thing I noticed. With the newest firmware my WiFi strength was always less than 90%, often around 70%, but with the January firmware it’s at 90% +, usually around 98%
I concur on all your points MJALowe. I no longer see the rebooting and the wifi signal is now between 92 & 100%, where it showed in the low 80s with March firmware. I also knew the card was not the issue, since I was using a card (Samsung EVO) that had proven its ability to record large files and even continous recordings in a Nikkon camera. I never formatted the card until I was told in this forum, that the card was the issue causing the reboots.
(Admittedly, I don’t care what the wifi readings were before versus now, as readings go up and down even steady state.)
So I’ve done a significant amount of research on my rebooting issue and thought I would pass this along for comment.
I was having problems with my V2 excessively rebooting. I worked with Customer Support to get a replacement. When I received the replacement and set it up, it displayed the same behavior as the original. I set this up with an “HE” SD card, using Complete Motion Capture, and continuous recording to help see reboots. The cam rebooted 56 times over 2 1/2 days. (56 boot log files) I reformatted the SD to see if that would help. It did not
As a test, I setup the original cam with an SD card and to continuously record. I did NOT set it up to use the Complete Motion Capture service since that was applied to the replacement. This cam has been running for 10 days with not one single reboot.
Both cams are running the January Firmware and I am using the latest Android app. I am regularly looking at the cams and trying to review saved video. Both Cams work fine outside of the replacement reboots. Both cams show three bars of WiFi. I have 200/50 gig internet.
Early Today I reset the replacement to not use Compete Motion Capture, and since the change that cam has not rebooted once during the next 14 hours.
Bottom line the only thing that appears to be causing the reboots is enabling the Complete Motion Capture service. It’s not a wifi issue, as I have lots of capacity and no other devices are having issues.
My camera is doing the same thing. Instead of helping me I have to prove i’m a human, it’s becoming BS stop wasting your time go get you a real camera
Hmmm, as a note, I haven’t updated my app since I installed it a couple weeks ago, and I never enabled complete motion capture.
I’m very sure it’s NOT your SD cards. It’s definitely something with the “latest and greatest”.
My cams are still running good on January’s firmware and app version 2.9.58 (with complete motion capture never turned on)
Incidentally I’m testing to see how well the cams run on batteries…so far they last about 48 hours on a 20,000 mha battery with a 2.1amp output… not great, but good enough to use as an occasional dash cam or some such.
