As a long time user, I’m writing to provide feedback on the Wyze Cam Pan V4. I appreciate the updates, but I miss a feature from the Wyze Cam Pan V3 where the camera didn’t have a fixed “Home” position.
It would be a significant improvement if you could add a feature to toggle the “Home” waypoint one or off. This would give users the flexibility to have the camera stay in its last position if needed.
Thank you for considering this suggestion from a loyal customer.
If you go into the release thread, I believe this has been identified as a bug, when fixed the cam should act like the v3 where it stays where you left it (unless you have pan/scan or motion tracking on).
As part of its initial setup procedure of a pan cam V4, there’s a step where one sets the home point, and it automatically becomes waypoint#1. And it looks like for a pan cam V3, if you set waypoint#1, you set its home point.
I have had waypoint 1 set on both my pan cams since I got them, it only returns there if you tap it (or turn on pan/scan). For everything else, it stays where you leave it. I actually used to use detection zone to force this behavior, returning to a home point after moving it in case I forgot to move it back. But they removed that ability.
Please be aware that, even if your intent is to send a message to Wyze, this Forum is primarily a user-to-user support community. While Wyze employees do participate, you’re probably more likely to have one of them see it if you post to a topic created by a Wyze Team member, like the official Cam Pan v4 announcement topic in the Wyze News category.
As far as actual suggestions go, those are typically posted to the Wishlist category, and before attempting to post a new topic there (new Wishlist topics have to be approved my a Moderator) it’s best to familiarize yourself with how that category works.
Regarding your specific request, one thing that’s actually kind of cool about Cam Pan v4 is that the Home Waypoint can be whichever Waypoint you want it to be (it doesn’t have to be the #1 position), and changing takes only 3 quick taps (one tap to select which Waypoint you want to be Home, one tap to the Home icon to reassign it, and one tap to confirm the selection). I find this helpful when I want the camera pointed in a certain position to make the microSD card slot more accessible for easy card insertion/removal without manually manipulating the camera’s position, and setting a temporary “Home” Waypoint this way prevents the camera from timing out and automatically tracking back to whatever Home position was previously set.
I really wish…
…that Wyze had a dedicated microSD card mount/eject position that users could select so that hitting the Eject MicroSD Card button would automatically move the camera to a convenient position for this. There would have to be more than one “set” position to account for the various mounting possibilities, or it could be completely user defined like a Waypoint (maybe a 5th Waypoint that could be changed at will, just like “Home” but wouldn’t figure into the Pan Scan feature), but something like this would potentially obviate motor wear or gear slip caused by user manipulation of a camera’s position just to access the card slot.
That’s not really on topic, though, so maybe I’ll suggest this to the Wishlist.
I can not get the cam to stop going back to the home point no matter the settings I try. Smart track on or off, pan on or off, doesn’t matter. Every couple seconds it goes back to the home point no matter what.

I just saw this topic[1], and my first inclination would be to reproduce the issue, generate a log, and then open a Support ticket with the Log ID to hopefully get the issue on Wyze’s radar that way. It may also be helpful to post the Log ID to the announcement topic you linked, because that’s probably where it’s likely to get the most visibility here in the Forum.
I don’t have any insight into how much Wyze product managers track announcement topics in the Forum, but it might be possible to tag somebody that way to see if this could be considered for a priority change. I got the impression from reading AMA responses that they’re already expecting to deliver some kind of update to Cam Pan v4 by October, so I’m wondering if community members bringing this to their attention in the announcement topic might get them to address this particular camera behavior.
I don’t know if that would be the case or not. I’m just thinking of ways that I might approach this if it was a high-priority issue for me. Right now I primarily see it as a minor annoyance, but I think it’s something that has potential for improvement.
I hadn’t added cam-pan-v4 to my tracked tags until just a minute ago, but I’ve been reading and following comments about Cam Pan v4 in other recent topics. ↩︎
For now, put pan control in “Edit” mode. It stops the camera from going back to the home position. Even though you made no changes, it still asks if you want to save the “changes” after you exit “Edit” mode.
Make sure you’re really in pan control “Edit” mode, by pressing the pen icon; just seeing the “Edit” label isn’t enough. I just tried again, waited for 7 minutes; it didn’t go back to home point.
That’s unlikely to happen, and that’s the reason they removed it (and the warning). It seems to be baked in, because it’s now part of the setup procedure. No other Wyze camera has done that in the past.
Deleting the home point is not a solution. With the home point deleted, my camera automatically returns to the face-down position. This issue, and the lack of time lapse feature, unfortunately make the V4 pan unusable for me. Despite the great 4k quality.
Minor annoyance? With respect, when I point my Pan Cam at something (e.g. the northern lights) and hit the button to manually record video, having the camera move itself back to its mandatory home position after 10 seconds is more than a minor annoyance. The entire reason I have pan cams is to point them at things and record them. This makes the camera unusable for me.
Camera firmware is 4.70.0.2082 and app is v3.7.5 (b696). I submitted a ticket,
But in your first comment, you literally said you primarily see it as a minor annoyance. Do you have a V4 Pan Cam?
And yes, tracking is off. Have you tried manually panning the camera, starting recording, and quickly resetting the home point so it doesn’t move back? Then panning while live videoing, and have to do the whole home point setting process again? Not trivial.
I do. And if you browse the threads, I supplied a few test results. And I did extensive tests, both for this pan V4 and my pan V3s.
Annoyance or not, it takes just a couple of clicks to set the home point, in the direction you want to record. And to do that, you need the pan control in edit mode. In that state, the camera would not move, and not pan.
