Same. Very annoying!
For me, yes, as I stated. Others have different perspectives, as you clearly do. The annoyance for me involves access to the microSD card slot, as I noted in the product announcement topic:
My work-around for now is to set a new Home Waypoint (as I described in the linked topic), but I still see that as a work-around and hope that Wyze will better address this. Since it’s easy to change which Waypoint is Home and to rearrange Waypoints with this particular camera, that’s something you could consider doing for now.
Thanks for clarifying. I agree trying to access the memory slot with the camera moving would be annoying. Could switching the camera off in the app (facing down for privacy) be a solution for that?
I’m a little cranky as I had such high hopes for this camera. So far great picture quality, good connectivity, but frustrating with the panning and apparently no time lapse either?
Sure thing. ![]()
Not the way I have it mounted, no, but don’t think I haven’t considered that.
The orientation of the slot would be 180° away from me. I have the camera inverted (with the Rotate Image 180° setting enabled), so I need to have the camera facing straight down in order to have proper access to the microSD card slot.
Because of reasons I’ve stated in other topics, I think Wyze should have a user-selectable position (possibly an extra “Waypoint”) that the camera moves into when ejecting a microSD card. If they’re cautioning us against manually (as in with our hands) positioning the camera—like they did in the AMA—then they should design into the app a way to make the camera automatically orient the slot so that it’s convenient for user access.
I understand the frustration and am trying to be optimistic that they’ll remedy at least some of these issues with future firmware/app/back-end updates.
Here’s how I safely accessed the SD card slot:
• Device Settings⇾MicroSD Card⇾Eject MicroSD Card
• Pan Control⇾Edit (pencil)⇾(arrow keys) position the camera such that the card slot is in a convenient orientation.
The camera won’t move while you insert/remove the micro SD card.
Every pan camera ever made stays where you point it via the app.
It will also allow saved points to be moved to by clicking on the mapped point.
This is a flaw in the application. Or firmware?
The camera is useless in present form.
The ver 3 pan was fine for panning and holding. It was buggy in connectivity ways.
Whenever I want to adjust the camera position, I have to define its new position as home. This is absurd behavior. I can’t imagine a scenario where I wouldn’t want the camera to stay where I pointed it.
It’s weird that people are complaining that their pan V3s are not returning to the home point. They even resort to using the detection zone (incorrectly) to make it return to a home point.
Now that its successor, the pan V4, is here, they are urging that Wyze to remove the home point.
The real problem is that the pan V4 is returning to the home point too soon; it takes less than a second for it to maintain position before it returns. The pan V3 takes about a minute.
My issue is simple. If pan and scan are turned off I expect the unit to act dumb–and stay where you put it.
Once motion or tracking are turned on I believe they are trying to fix the staring at wall, bugs, etc. I think they got close but screwed it up with pan and scan turned off.
If it wasn’t for your workaround I doubt I would still have the unit😕.
About staring at the wall, that’s also true, but I haven’t experienced it. The other issue that I forgot to mention, is “Smart Track”, it’s too sensitive, that when the camera is fixed at a scene, it tends to keep moving in small increments. It’s a bad replacement for the old, “Track Motion”.
Hmmm. Haven’t seen that but haven’t really looked.
That’s not good as my other 3 - v3’s all use Track Motion and if the v4 was up to it I was going to replace them.
On my radar.
Still looking for a fix. Latest app update did not fix this.
It needs a new firmware, and possibly an app update.
Dumb Idea on the Pan Cam V4
No other cam has done this so why are you implementing it on the new Pan Cam v4. Why are you making it automatically go back to a spot. That should be an option not a feature. I don’t want mine to ever move back to a spot. If I left it in a position it’s because I want it there. Like if I’m doing a recording or a Timelapse or just when I always want to see one area or for a long period of time. I HATE that I move it somewhere and in 5 seconds it goes back to where I don’t want it. And or if you close the app it goes back by default. That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen a company do. Let alone the evening photo and night color isn’t as good as the previous pan cam. Why would you not make this an option and leave the thing along since it was great in the previous versions of cams.
[Mod Note]: Your topic and associated replies were merged for consistency in grouping similar issues and for better visibility to Wyze.
There are already several discussions on this, refer to those threads for info. It is likely a bug that will get fixed.
I really doubt this is the dumbest thing you’ve ever seen a company do.
Since you brought this up I’ve been watching for any drift. I haven’t even turned on Smart Tracking. Just 2 waypoints opposite each other (180°). Yesterday I went back and forth a dozen times or so and I do see a small amount of drift.
Before I come to any conclusions I want to physically lock the camera down. I could imagine the startup and stop torque causing a small amount of movement of the camera. The camera is just siting loose on a shelf. Time permitting I’ll come up with a more permanent mount and see if the results are repeatable.
Mine is also sitting on my desk, so it’s plausible that panning could cause the drift. But I see people here and in other media who have them mounted and see the drifts.
I should add that I don’t have a drift problem with my pan V3s. And I had never mentioned drift on pan V4 as a concern, because I haven’t mounted them. I won’t until the worst bugs are ironed out.
It actually is. I called them and they are not going to fix it. They are going to leave it where it changes position either when you leave the app or after a certain 5 to 10 seconds.
It’s the dumbest thing I have ever seen. I talked to them yesterday and they said they are not going to have it like the other pan cam where you can move it and it will stay. It will go to the home point either when you leave the app or after some time like 5 to 10 seconds. I hate that. I don’t want it to ever move. If I put it at the back had then I want it to stay there till I move it. To if I leave the app or in a time frame.
No offense, but why get a ptz camera if you only want it to point in one direction?
