Palm Lock Battery Drain

I installed the palm lock w/ door screen in front. the battery mode was on automatic. I got an alert one hour after saying a battery drain. I changed it to extreme battery saving and it saved. shortly after i got another alert of battery drain. the battery mode changed back to automatic somehow.

Is this the device’s issue or the app? Also why is my lock battery draining? is it because of the door screen?

Welcome to the Forum, @CJKiddo! :wave:

What firmware version is your Palm Lock using? Please note this recent topic:

Also, did you fully charge the Main Battery prior to installation? That initial charge (and/or recharge if you’ve been using the battery for a while and its capacity is low) can take several hours.

Hi yes it was fully charged. the Palm Lock firmware version is 1.1.6

Good to know on both counts. :+1:

What did Support say when you contacted them? If you haven’t already done so, I’d be inclined to submit a log and then open a ticket referencing the Log ID.

I’ve seen some issues with Main Battery drain when Palm Lock is installed behind a storm door, and I imagine Wyze will continue to refine the device’s radar and response over time with firmware updates, though they don’t often provide a lot of detail in the release notes. If I had to guess at why your battery is draining, then I’d speculate that it’s seeing a bunch of wake-up events, and I believe a log should give Wyze’s engineers more information about that (but Support agents will tell you that they can’t access logs).

If you have a camera that’s capable of seeing IR and is pointed at your door/lock, then you can see if it’s showing an abnormal wake-up frequency (easier to see when it’s dark), but it shouldn’t be doing that unless it senses a human presence. That’s something you could potentially check to see if it’s waking up when it shouldn’t, but I’d still start with logging it and follow that by contacting Support.

I’m not sure why the Battery Management setting seemed to change. I haven’t seen that happen, but that might be something to keep an eye on, and don’t know if clearing the app cache and/or uninstalling/reinstalling the app would have any effect on that or not. For whatever it’s worth, I’m currently using a Palm Lock with Battery Management set to Auto behind a storm door with a screen installed, and I’ll swap the screen for a glass pane when the weather is consistently cooler. I fully charged the Main Battery sometime last week (I think), and the app is showing its charge at 95% right now. :man_shrugging:

@CJKiddo

Can you create a Device Log for the Palm Lock and post it here. I can get some eyes on it once it is posted.

To get a Device Log, go to the Lock and then go to settings. At the bottom of the list is Wyze Support, select that and submit log. Once submitted you will get a Log Number. Post it here.

thanks

2043337 thanks hopefully i can find out why it’s happening. for right now i had to turn on extreme battery mode (which kinda makes the palm unlock pointless) and reboot for the mode to stick.

@CJKiddo Thanks for the reporting. We are preparing a new test firmware for the screen door environment. Would you be willing to help us test it?

We are working on it and hopefully can be ready in 1-2 weeks. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Hi @CJKiddo we have pushed the new firmware to your device. Could you please verify if your lock is on firmware ver. 1.1.8? If confirmed, please try switch the battery management mode from Auto to any other and then switch back to Auto. Keep it on for few days on Auto mode and see if issue still persists. Thank you so much!
