Outdoor/Weatherproof Wyze Cam

ETA for the outdoor camera and how do I purchase from Australia ?

All they said on the ask me anything was it will be the next product released but they would not give a date. And as far as purchasing in Australia you’re on your own I have no idea

Don’t know if you’ve considered this but not everyone needs a video doorbell. Most everyone has a doorbell.

How about a simple camera (battery operated) that can be mounted on the outside of the door with motion detection? I realize that the battery component might be limiting but Arlo seems to be able to pull it off.

Just a suggestion.

One thing I would like to know about the WCO is if it is the same size as the V2 or if it’s taller or wider shorter white? Like will it fit in the existing rubber covers and sleeves in different things we have already or is it its own unique size? Do you think they could at least give out if it’s the same size as the V2

I’ve disassembled a V2 and there’s no room in there for a battery, so I would expect it to be larger. Probably significantly larger for even a Lipo battery of decent capacity.

They could also put a button on it so people could manually send you an alert. :slightly_smiling_face:

Will the WCO still be 5v or with the changes did it effect the voltage. I really don’t want to rewire where I mounted v2s outside. But if I do that’s on me. I understand.

I read somewhere that they were still micro USB powered so 5v.

The WCO takes the same power cord as the V2.

Thank you for weighing in Loki. I don’t suppose you could possibly answer if it’s the same length?

Sorry, I have no idea what length cord will be supplied with the final product.

No problem. Never hurts to ask. Thanks for the response though

It will be a weatherproof cord though?

That’s a good question although I have a V2 outside right now that I’m just using a flat Cable and tucked it under my siding so I guess that’s what’s weatherproofing it but that is a really good question. The rest of my cables are in the attic and don’t have to worry about them.

But from the digging I’ve done on the Internet I’m not so sure with the WCO’s going to wow us like we think it’s going to. I want it mainly just for PIR. The four cameras to one hub I do not understand. I wish they would at least come forward and explain that. Because every other hub that I own can carry a lot more than four devices. I mean a lot more! I’m not just talking about 20 devices or 40 devices. Lutron can handle 72 devices. Insteon just upped theirs to an even 100 devices. And I think my logitech hub can handle over 50 devices. So one handling for devices I just don’t get it. They better have a real good reason. Because that means you’re going to have hubs all over your house. And you know the wife’s gonna love that

I totally agree with you!!

Well, all cords are pretty waterproof except the metsl connectors on the ends. :slightly_smiling_face:
The waterproofing would have to be at the connection points on the camera and the USB power supply. Probably a silicone boot.

One thing that is probably too late to ask for (for the outdoor cam) but I thought that I would throw it out there. I recently found a very nice led worklight that uses 21700 Lithium batteries that allow me to change the batteries out rather than wait for the batteries to recharge. It would be a very nice feature that would allow me to use a common lithium battery like 18650, 21700 or 26650. What does everyone else think?

I would love replaceable batteries even if I had to buy a proprietary battery from Wyze. But I doubt they thought that far ahead. My friend with Arlo has 2 sets of batteries. He simply replaces a dead battery with a charged one. And charges the 2nd battery so it’s ready next time. I bet Wyze didn’t go this route. It’s too simple.

Im glad to read that they Outdoor cam is next on the list. I have been debating heavily on going with the Eufy 2 camera and hub set but i’ll hold off if it looks like the summer may be the Wyze debut. Im definitely hoping they are much cheaper than some of the other options out there. Cant wait for more detail and keep up the good work Wyze.

This sounds like a Blink cam. I just returned 3 blink cams because they only record clips. There must be a way to record continuous (even if it required a solar option). PIR just doesn’t work with all the false alerts. Also hopefully there will be 4mm option. The wide angle is ok for front porches, but not for longer distances. The bling hub works ok to manage the cams setting.

PTZ would be perfect!
