3 outdoor cameras that have been working perfectly for about a month have all gone offline and rebooting them and the nearby router with good signal strength does not bring them back. Everything else that is IOT and using same tech is working as expected so blaming the network or components is unlikely. Just 3 identical outdoor camera with security lights all went offline and I cannot get them back on. I can starting walking round doing factory resets and being them all back, but in the long term that is not good solution. Are these outdoor Wyze products prone to failures? I need reliable. All other Wyze devices like the pan-tilts and other stationary cams all working fine, just the 3 security light cameras all barfed at same time.
I have 4 outdoor v1’s still operating after close to 5 years. Can you explain the security light reference since the v1 and v2 have no security lights. Do you mean mounted next to security lights? Sounds like you may have a base station problem. Is it still showing as online as a device in the Wyze app?
Thanks for answering, the order calls them a Wyze Cam Floodlight V2. That is all I know. Bought From Wyze. I am glad to hear you have had long satisfactory experience. All my smaller indoor cams have been on many years also with never a single problems. Kind why I felt comfortable buying these. Later today I will go through the factory reset process and connect them again. All my other Wyze devices are currently working just fine. I have 11 total Wyze devices, everything else is fine. Just these particular model cams. Wyze Cam Floodlight V2. Thanks for answering, I have no doubt factory reset will get them going again, but sometimes people also have a similar experience and some insight to something not so obvious. In the app they show offline. It was easy to recycle the electrical power going to them, that usually is all that is needed and works, recycled the router power also. After rebooting everything still offline in the app.
This might be stupid question, but have you force quit the app?
Using ios, other than throwing it off the screen (sliding it) , or rebooting the phone, how do I “force Quit”, I would rally like to learn that. Thank you.
That’s what I meant, looks like you’ve already done that. The reason I asked is that the cameras tend to act stupid when they loose WiFi and they don’t call the app when they come back online unless you relaunch the app.
Excellent, I did not know that part. Thank you for the replies. In a few hours I will get them all back online. Sometimes these early setups have hiccups and small quirks, then all the problems go away and they get stable. I am hoping for that to happen here, eventual stability.
I have a feeling that the issue might be WiFi related. I know you mentioned that the cameras have been working fine for the past month, but when it comes to WiFi especially the 2.4 GHz band things can change without notice. Some of your neighbours might have added new devices, maybe you added a new device, the router might’ve switched a channel… who knows. If your cameras are on the fringe of a good signal things can go south pretty quickly and randomly.
Agreed and that is why I recommend using an Android device and loading a wifi monitor that shows channel interference and signal strength, Walk around the property, Plan the network and use channels not being used by neighbors, Often neighbors never manage the device and only use the default channels, So a person using the Android wifi monitor can select a channel not being used by neighbors. Place Network Extenders (or better Access Points) in key locations assured of getting good reliable strength and power so there is a smooth seemless integration across the whole area. The other thing I tend to do is move to Class B instead of the default Class C on most home router systems. Most of my installations can have a lot of devices so this allows easy expansion. The idea is to have good strength outside and inside, in the garage(s) and by doors where there are access locks, cameras, etc.
Thanks for your feedback and input.
My misunderstanding. It’s outdoor floodlight cam v2 not just outdoor cam v2. That’s actually the floodlight cam I am using. I had to replace my initial FL cam v2 under warranty because of connection issues. No problems with the replacement in almost 1 ½ years. Would be interesting to see what your outcome is after additional troubleshooting.
