Outdoor Cam NOT detecting or recording motion

I believe there is a piece of metal inside of the top of the camera, meaning, you could pull the camera off its base and see if the top sticks to the magnet on the base.

The mount can hold the camera upside down just spin it 180 degrees - the camera will be fine

I assume the WCO is the subject of this conversation. I don’t know the limit (distance) of PIR but it the actions you believe should trigger a notification are beyond the PIR’s sensor range then it would make sense

I don’t know why PIR would be distance sensitive - only that the larger the object the more likely to trigger an event than a small one

I get events 60 ft away on the far left of the field of vision

I believe that all detection devices have a useable range just like Sonar, radar etc. Don’t know about the WCO though.

@Big_monkey
Two or three times a week a cat will walk from the hedges on the right side of the picture, diagonally across the driveway towards the front bumper of the car in the driveway. As soon as it steps onto the edge of the driveway the motion lights turn on. I have a V2 camera BEHIND tinted glass window that will see the motion lights come on and thus record the cat walking across the driveway. The WOC mounted just above the V2 cam but on the exterior of the house NEVER sees this. Animals, Motion lights, doesn’t matter, it never sees any of that. It will sometimes pick up Car driving on the road in front of my house at night. If someone parks a CAR in the driveway it will not pick that up and start recording until the person is has exited and is 1/2 step from being out of the field of view as they approach the front door!

That’s sad, they had two years to get this WCO up and reliable but what we’ve gotten so far is a heavier, bigger wireless camera that doesn’t perform half as well as the V2…

Clearly, they have a way to go with this thing.
I was excited at first. After wanting an outdoor cam for so long. FINALLY!
Yet, it’s so incredibly anticlimactic.

I will probably switch over to either Netgear’s Arlo or Anker’s Eufy for my outdoor cam needs, and use them until Wyze gets this thing up-to-speed.

No offense. I absolutely LOVE Wyze, both their products, AND company.

The problem is that I need this sort of tech working ‘properly’ NOW.

Battery life for me:
I charged and mounted my WOC on Aug 3rd. November 5th It turned off at 20% and I had to recharge it. Three moths with the way I have it set. I have Regular V2 cam looking at the same location but through a tinted window. Works great during the day but obviously not great once nighttime comes. So the WOC is on a schedule to turn on at 6:30pm and off at 5:45am everyday. I also don’t run the IR lights because it limits the camera view distance. Set up this way I got three months and that is with a bunch of playing around with it for the first three weeks.

I’ve set my wco outside & the battery lasts about 4 to 5 days & it sporadically only records a person walking by. Disappointed in the wco after being spoiled by the V2 & other products. Have had it since Sept 1st & it’s never recorded like it should. Thankfully, my v2 recorded someone at my home at 2:30am looking in all my windows while I was home.

Has there been any resolution to the recording issue? I have bought 4 WOC cameras to use in two locations. SD cards in both. Not capturing any motion. No recording to card. no recording to backup card on bridge. it is basically now just a nice way to see the view of something real time while you have the app open. They are totally useless in capturing and archiving activity. Unlike the V2 I bought. I thought this would be an upgrade instead of a downgrade. Has a remedy been posted? #wyze

Same here- Has there been any valid resolution? My WOC won’t detect and record motion, regardless of following their instructions and testing all the different permutations of distance settings, sensitivity settings, cool-down periods, and location zone settings. Just terrible. Wyze’s video above in post 249 just restates the basics, all of which I’ve tried. I’ve emailed them, but no response. Incidentally, in the video, the tech person who is talking seems genuinely shocked that the camera detected his hand moving a few inches from the camera- that’s not a good sign, that he was shocked. (Yes, that was the first test I did out of the box- it is the only test the camera has passed: it can detect motion 6 inches away.)

The only update I have I can go in each day and set the recording time in hours and it will capture video. Not very efficient to have to go in every day and reset how many hours you want to record. For that ONE day. Still no recording to bridge or to SD when set up on motion setting. Early on I was advocating #wyze to all my friends. That was before the WOC. I have warned everyone now to stay away from #wyze. #wyze are you listening?

This same problem has been going on for about a year, and there has been no improvement, as far as I can see. I am returning my outdoor cam because it does not detect motion, does not record, loses connection with the base most of the time, and freezes the entire app. In other word, it quite sucks. Wyze is ruining its otherwise good reputation by continuing to market this obviously failed product.

We all have same problem and one thing in common look at the Date: AUG-20 and that is the day the APP itself was updated. and since then everything got messed up including detection of CARS in CAM plus account. since that day CARS are detected as a motion and not an AI detection. and Outdoor Cams recording /notification is On/OFF even with Cam plus account. I have made several calls and complaint but no resolution yet
