OG Not Detecting "Person" at Night

I walk 30-40 feet in front of the camera every morning before sunrise and it hasn’t noticed me yet (that’s me just left of the tree trunk.)

Tried with and without night vision. Detection sensitivity is at 100.

Should another camera model have more success detecting a person?

My Cam V3 cameras do well Tagging Person even across my street at night. Motion was recorded and correctly Tagged as Person.
Detection sensitivity is at 90.
Night vision Off
V3 aimed through double pane window.

Part of it certainly depends on the lighting conditions, but I will also say that Wyze claims they aim for their AI detection sensitivity to be roughly 30 feet for detecting a person under optimal conditions. Granted, they can often detect a person farther away than that, though at a reduced confidence interval. Really low light conditions are not optimal, and reduce the chance of a good detection, add to that the fact that it is 30-40 feet away, and it’s beyond the recommended distance for accurate detection.

Best Options would probably be using an OG-T cam or increasing the lighting conditions with a floodlight or something.

Did the camera save the motion event? Just did t tag it as person?

I believe this is what is at play here. Dark foreground and background, and dark subject from what I can tell from that one frame of video. There needs to be more contrast between the subject but and the area around it for it to “see” the person. Is there a light or something that can be used to illuminate the sidewalk?

Are you using AI person detection (with Cam Plus/Cam Unlimited) or just normal motion? Normal motion would probably pick that up, but I highly doubt the AI will. It needs a much clearer picture than that and likely a closer distance too.

I actually have this same problem with a v4 that I have at the front door, and can reproduce it almost always. If the porch light is OFF, it will often miss me entirely. If the porch light is ON, I have never had it miss. Seems like an issue with some of the newer models, as the V3 on the porch literally never misses me, whether or not the light is on. It’s very bizarre. You should be able to solve this problem with a bit more light, if you can add some.

Are you using AI person detection? It definitely needs a good amount of light to be able to recognize objects vs. just plain motion. But at a certain point, it will be too dark for even standard motion (however my OGs and Panv3s seem to pick it up even in very low light, even at standard 50-60 sensitivity).

The v4 has a higher resolution sensor which means it needs more light than the older cams, so that has an impact too.

I’ve got an unused v3. I’ll switch it out and see if it does any better.

Yeah, person detection is what’s needed. Regular motion picks up all the car headlights from the street. I’d have to narrow the detection zone down to almost nothing to avoid that.

OK, in the image you posted, AI person detection almost certainly won’t work, we can barely tell it is a person, so the AI definitely can’t. Even in night mode, I suspect that is too far away/not detailed enough to trigger it.

I’d be surprised if a v3 could do it, while the lower resolution might give a somewhat brighter “color night vision” image, it still probably won’t be detailed enough.

Yeah…I think that’s probably right.

I wondered if the brighter parts of the scene at the top and bottom are causing the darker area in the center to be “underexposed”?

I think that’s a fair question, but I don’t think it’s the case here. What I get from the picture is that there just isn’t enough ambient light for the camera to capture the area in question very well. I go back to @carverofchoice’s suggestion to increase the available light in the area.
