I finally got the email event notifications to work - the operation is not what I was expecting, but I think it is working per the Wyze design. I have to back and read the user manual several times.
Here are some key points about the event notification:
I do not see any way to have regularly scheduled pictures. At my cabin, my current cell phone emails me a picture of the living room every 60 minutes.
A motion event can only be triggered once within a 5 minute period. Each motion event is a minimum of 12 seconds, even if the motion only lasted 1 second. So if you have several motion events within a 5 minute period, you are only going to see a single event.
The motion events are stored in the cloud for a max of 14 days. Motion events are not stored under the Album tab of the Wyze app. If you want a permanent record of the event, then you can download the event to your cell phone. I do not see any direct way to get a video of a motion event from the Wyze cam to my PC.
Email alerts of motion events do not have a picture of the actual event. You have to use the Wyze app on your cell phone to see the actual video of the event. The size of each email alert is about 20KB.
The motion event will be shown in the Event screen - however, the screen is not automatically refreshed upon an arrival of a new event. You either have to select a different day then go back to todayâs date, or you have to touch todayâs date in order to refresh the screen.
You can get email alerts for motion events by installing the IFTTT app. Please watch the previous listed YouTube video. The app is easy to install and setup. On my cell phone, I use the Gmail app for all emails. I have a gmail account and several accounts under CenturyLink, In the initial setup of IFTTT, I selected the Gmail icon for the email app and entered my gmail address. That did not work. On each motion event trigger, I got an error .about a problem with the gmail service. Under the gmail icon, I then changed my email address to a CenturyLink address. That also produced the same error. I then went back into the setup of IFTTT and selected the âemailâ icon as opposed to the âgmailâ icon. I then selected a CenturyLink email address. That worked.
For a final test, place the Wyze cam next to where you are working on your PC. There should be enough motion to trigger the motion alert. On your email client, you should see an email alert once every five minutes.
Hope that helps.
