Yes, in Android’s App info settings for the Wyze app (and other apps). I’m using pretty much stock Android on the devices I described above, no third-party launcher.
As far as I’m aware, no one is able to do that natively because Wyze hasn’t built that into the app, though it’s been a long-time request. Android users can do it with a work-around using a third-party notification interceptor app, such as Tasker, BuzzKill, or MacroDroid. The only one of those I’ve ever tried is MacroDroid, and it works, but there’s a bit of a learning curve to get it set up and working. You can search the Forum for guidance on doing this with one or more of those third-party apps. You might also want to take a look at these existing Wishlist topics (and search for others) and then vote and comment for those that are important to you:
Oh wait—that is not how I’ve been proceeding, that’s something different that I was completely unaware of. It shows Wyze Sound 1, Wyze Sound 2, and WyzeMessage, all toggled on. I am going to toggle them all off and see what happens.
That’s it! When I uninstalled/reinstalled the app, it must have set those all to on, a setting I didn’t even know existed. When I toggled all three to off, I ended up getting no Wyze notifications at all, either sound or screen. But when I tried toggling WyzeMessage on, leaving 1 and 2 off, I seem to be back exactly where I wanted to be—just getting my little click of a System Default notification sound on Wyze notifications. Yay! And thanks!
SO… a quick summary is that this app’s notifications can be changed for some, and not for others. Seems WYZE is not following this thread or may not even be aware of the issue? I have the 99 camera WyZe Cam option and pay for that. Is there anyone in Wyze actually following this thread or are we all barking up an empty tree?
Not sure your first sentence summary is accurate, but this tree did not turn out to be empty for me. Barking up it got me the answer I needed from the extremely helpful volunteers here. Cheers to them.
My apologies, perhaps I should have said ‘changes for some’ but do not change for me. My S23 still will not play any of the 3 Wyze sounds when a camera triggers a detection despite having any of the 3 Wyze sounds selected. My S23 always plays the default Samsung sound. The topic is marked solved and that does not fit for my situation.
Fair enough. I marked it Solved because my original question had been answered. Sounds like you have a different but related issue.
To sum up what I’ve learned so far, there are two different ways to get at Wyze notification sound settings on a Samsung phone. One is through the Wyze app itself, going to Account/Notifications/Push Notifications/Notification Sound, and choosing one of the four (for me at least) available choices.
The other is through the Android settings. Settings/Notifications/App Notifications/Wyze/Notification categories. That lets you (or at least me) toggle on/off Wyze Sound 1, Wyze Sound 2, and WyzeMessage. They were all toggled on for me, and the result was I was getting that doubled notification sound, always including Wyze 1. When I toggled off 1 and 2 and left WyzeMessage on, it let me have my Wyze notifications use System Default sound (which you set elsewhere in the Android settings).
And looking at that screen now, strangely enough it now has a fourth line entitled “Download completed” with a toggle switch that’s on. I have no idea what that’s about.
There’s one more place where notification sounds appear—that’s in the Android settings under Notifications/Advanced Settings/“Manage notification categories for each app.” That is turned on on my phone. I don’t know what that’s about either, and I have no idea exactly how these multifarious settings interact with each other. But with the help of the good folks here, I have at least blundered my way back to where I wanted to be, which is with my System Default sound acting as the Wyze notification sound. Sounds like that’s exactly where you are, and exactly where you don’t want to be.
Thanks for taking it off the solved list. However digging deeper today my S23 has updated the Wyze app from 3.17 to now 3.18. I looked back at your comments on what you had going on and it appears 3.18 has resolved the issue I was having. With an exception, I now get 2 phone notifications for each detection. Somewhere in the settings in 3.18 there is a ‘repeat in 10 seconds’ setting. I saw it while verifying my tones, but now cannot seem to find it. I’m happy this ‘sound change won’t stick’ has been resolved, at least for me and you. I’ll dig here to see where to disable ‘repeat in 10 seconds’ or… post a question.
