Good call ! It’s working now for simple motions, so it’s an AI issue after all…
That’s good to know! Toggle the setting back in an hour or so and see if it got fixed.
Did you also turn notifications on for just the AI detections or for all motion events? I’m curious to know if the issue is just for event Uploading or if the notifications are also affected.
For clarity I mean setting the event recording setting to all motions, and the notifications setting to specific AI detections.
Sorry for the late response, I woke up late then had toddler duty for a while until now, but it looks like you gave good advice.
Correct. Wyze specifically wanted to make sure that shared cameras should not ever show events that occurred prior to the share.
If events are not showing up in the events tab, then that is certainly the case (barring filter settings, etc)
I mostly agree, though there was a possibility that the issue is only affecting a small group of people with a specific settings configuration. But most likely it is an isolated incident related the camera locally not sending up the upload to the cloud.
Seems like rebooting may have resolved it. If needed, I would consider toggling some of the settings off and then back on. While rarely needed, sometimes that forces it to reset itself for that option, such as with a new app update or something that may have included a rare glitch.
I turned the notifications on for all events.
Anyway, I switched back both notifications and recording to AI only and it’s working fine now.
Nonetheless, it’s concerning you can lose monitoring like that without doing anything and possibly not noticing it for days…
Thanks for the help @towelkingdom
I’m so glad it got resolved! It may have been an update that caused it. It doesn’t happen often, I’ve been using wyze devices since 2018/2019 and only experienced that once.
It’s started malfunctioning again today ! No notification, no event, nothing. This time even switching back recording and notifications to all events did nothing. I’m beginning to seriously be fed up with wyze : unreliable, basic functions that everyone has been asking for years like turning off notifications for shared cams : noooope, translation of the app in other languages : noooope, less free functions, price rising, seriously ?
And I’m now stuck with useless cams again which record nothing and don’t notify me !
That is really strange. I’m not having any recording issues or notification issues.
Hey @spamoni do you use the AI for person detections? Any ideas what could be going on in this case?
It’s working for now, but I think it’s just a matter of time before it starts malfunctioning again
catching up.
Yes I do use AI for person detection and not having any issues. But I am running the Beta App as well as any Beta FW. I do know that Wyze is aware of some AI issues and is working on getting them corrected. I think on the full release, things will be better.
But let me read through this thread and see what is up
@wam @towelkingdom , can you all do me a favor?
Go to your events tab and stream any event, then at the bottom tap on the “yes” Help us improve… Do you see any AI options to select from?
Also, Can you each provide the following:
- Type of Device Being used
- App Version Being used
- Other than the V3 Cam, are you seeing this on any other camera?
Can you also provide a Device Log.
Thanks
Here’s what I’ve got:
Beta app and firmware up to date. V3.
I have not submitted a log, however, I record all motion events and choose to only be notified about people and pets. Wam, I believe, is wanting to record only specific motion events (correct me if I’m wrong). Our usage is slightly different.
I’ll come back and do a log soon, but I have to be home to test out person detection.
Thanks - FYI, on your Device Notification screen shot, the Other Motion Events is checked. That should be sending you notifications on all events then.
I set the AI I want in Event Recording and also check the All Motion. Then In notifications, I select the AI to be notified on and remove the Other Motion events check box.
Are you having any issues?
I’m not having issues with getting notifications. But I did notice none are marked person (but to be fair these are my bird cams and so I have my detection zone very very narrowed in).
I have an old school wireless outdoor cam (no outlet anywhere), and I have the EXACT same issue. On the 27th, perfect, 28th, chaos. It will take a snapshot, sometimes. But says it cannot upload to the cloud. I spent a VERY long time with wyze support, and he told me it was a firmware issue. My camera can’t be reset, so I’m screwed until they update firmware. I was told they are aware and working on it, but no clue when it would happen. I don’t get notifications, but I can see the pictures if I go to the events page. Beyond annoying, and I somehow doubt I’ll get an extra month of my cam plus membership, but I guess at least I can still live stream…
Well you jinxed me. LOL, I walked in front of my v3Pro and no notification on person. I ended up power Cycling my cameras, easy for me as it all terminates to my PoE Switch.
Now they are alerting again
Edit
After more testing, my cameras are alerting again. I did a power cycle on them, which was easy for me as explained above.
So this is a known problem ?! Not only wyze doesn’t provide any communication about this issue but they keep pushing this buggy firmware months after its release ! I always wait a few months before doing a firmware update to avoid this kind of issue (no matter the brand), but I’ve obviously overestimated the wyze staff ! Such amateurism…
And yes doing a power cycle can [sometimes] make the cameras working again, but it’s a temporary fix, I had this problem again earlier today…
@spamoni So, I did some changes while I was home and person tagging is NOT working on any of my cams. I have it set to notify me of people, but events recording is set to on for all motion events. So I’m getting the events but they aren’t tagged as people when I’m in clear view of the cameras.
Quick question: does the AI scan the whole image after motion is detected for the person, or does it only check the detection zone? Just want to rule out my setup as the issue.
@wam they update the software very frequently, so if you’re waiting months to update, it won’t make much of a difference as it will update you to the most recent. I’m on the beta app and beta firmware, to test stuff out before it goes live for everyone.
I did hear talk in various forum posts that Wyze is making improvements to the AI detection (to check for moving objects as the AI stands now it picks up parked vehicles), so there may be a temporary hiccup while they are sorting that out I’m assuming.
That is a good question, last I heard it will look only at the Selected Detection zone.
But I will try to get eyes on this so we can get a definite answer.
Question - now that the new app is out, have you both updated to it? If so, are you seeing any difference?
No, I’m updating the app now though and I’ll report back.
Please do let me know about the detection zone. If I need to change my detection zone temporarily to help pinpoint the AI people tagging I can do that this weekend or next week.
Just posed the question, will let you know.
However, will tag the usuals and see if they can answer with 100% certainty. Note, it could also be camera specific.
@R.Good , @carverofchoice , @Seapup , @IEatBeans , @SlabSlayer
Do any of you know the answer @towelkingdom posed with 100% certainty, last I heard is that it will limit to the Selected Zone?
