No connect after switching from Xfinity to conxxus

Just changed from Xfinity to CONXXUS and I can’t get any of my 16 cameras and Wyze plugs to go online.

We used the same username and pastas was used for the Xfinity but none will go online and connect.

do I have to manually reinstall all cameras? That will suck

Could not guess what you mean by username and pastas. When switching to a different ISP, IF you got a new/different router, the only “name” that should rename the same as before is 1) your SSID/Home Network name and 2) its passcode/password for connecting to WiFi. Did your cell phone and computer reconnect automatically without you having to give it to make the connection? Because if they didn’t “just connect”, then you are not using the same SSID and password as before.

Fat fingers didn’t mean pastas

I printed out the username and password from my Xfinity app and we used those. My phone picked it up immediately after selecting the wifi name and then putting in the password. My tv the same.

I tried setting up new camera and it went through ready to connect and got all the way to what internet connection to use so I selected the one I printed out and used that password and it finally said can’t find camera or something like that.

I know I’m missing something but I just can’t see it

EDIT - my nest v3 thermostat connected immediately with the settings mentioned above.

Does your new ISP Modem/router have one SSID (Network Name) for both the 5.0 and 2.4 GHz networks? Is WPA3 turned on the new equipment? WYZE stuff doesn’t like WPA3, I would go into you equipment settings, turn off the 5.0 network, set to WPA2 and see if Cameras will connect then turn the 5.0 back on.

I cannot access modem settings through the normal 192.168.1.1 as it requires a username and password. They appear to have it locked down.

I just called them as I thought they had the 2.4/5 combined which they did. He made an exclusive 2.4 and my closest camera popped up after I did reset. Will I have to do add new camera/plug to setup with new WiFi name? I never found a way to do it through app or on the Wyze site.

That ISP is :cow: :poop: They won’t give you access the change the 2.4 network name to same as the old one?

You will just have to set up everything again I guess. You shouldn’t have to delete the devices from the app, open the app tap add device, camera, press the reset button on the cam and set up on the new 2.4 network name. Make sure your phone is on the same 2.4 network and Bluetooth is turned on during setup. I think you can do the same for the plugs.

Yea no she said they won’t unlock it I guess because of newbies getting in and frucking things up. I am going to call the tech that installed it and see if he get me hooked up - speaking as we did in the 60’s and 70’s.

I ended up doing it like you posted. I was finishing my last one when your post showed up.

thanks for the quick replies. This should be a lesson to people about the 2.4/5 tied together - combined, pick your word - to make sure your 2.4 is what I used to call stand alone.

I have Xfinity but I don’t use their ISP provided equipment, I purchased my own which also had one SSID for both networks but I was able to go the the settings, turned off band sharing and renamed the 2.4 network. Another move is to setup a guest network and name it the same as your old network, if you have the access to do that.

Yea I had to turn band sharing off on my Xfinity modem too. At least I could get in that modem. This locked modem is starting to make a good deal look a little tarnished.

In addition to trying to turn off 5ghz (if you can’t turn off band steering), make sure your 2.4ghz is set to 20mhz (not 20/40 or 40) and encryption mode is WPA2 (not WPA2/3 or WPA 3). Once the cameras are connected, you can turn the 5ghz back on, it is usually only the initial connection that band steering can interfere with. But you want to leave 20mhz and WPA2 or you’ll probably have issues the next time the cams (or router) reboot.

Other than that, triple check the network name and password, both are case sensitive. Did other devices you have reconnect automatically?

Yes my phone, tv, computer and smart thermostat all hooked up easily.

After the tech at CONXXUS made a pure 2.4 all my Wyze stuff came back up. I had to fight a couple V3 cameras but all is well now.

The worst part is they - CONXXUS - password protected the modem and I can’t access it to make any changes if I need to. I will have to call them to remotely do it. Makes my 8gig internet a little tarnished if I have to rely on a phone tech to fix what I could if I could get on it.

Then do yourself a favor, if they won’t give you that info. Get yourself another router. Pick just about anything WiFi 6 or 6e, better WiFi 7. Then Plug its Ethernet cable into a port on your Xfinity router, Yes, your Internet will pass right through as if the Xfinity router is not even there. Then ignore the Xfinity. Using the router you bought, gives you 100% complete control. Set it up using your old SSID/WiFi name and password. Then you are connecting to it alone. This will solve your problem.

And for instance, next year if you change providers again, just plug your router into their router, and EVERYTHING you have still works.

Do they have an app you can use, or can you do it via your online account? A lot of ISPs are pushing that way now, but this sounds like a smaller one.

I would first ask them to re-enable 5ghz. Reboot your cams, see if they come back online fine (often it is just the first time that band steering interferes). If not, then ask them to split the bands so you have a separate network name for 5ghz. Or alternatively (and much more flexible), just ask them to create a new guest network that is 2.4ghz only. Of course you have to choose whether you want the guest network to get your original network name (you’ll need to re-set up your non Wyze devices) or if you want the main network to retain the original name (have to re-set up only Wyze devices).

A bit of work in the beginning but this is a more flexible option, and having the IOT stuff isolated to a separate network is always good.

The OP switched from Xfinity to CONXXUS Fiber. Looking at their Web Site you have to contact them for almost everything even changing the SSID or password.

If I were in your situation, I would tell them to completely turn off the WiFi permanently and add you own WiFi access points (not a router unless you can disable all router functions).

If OP does indeed need the ISP to make any and every little change to their router I’d agree, either ditch their router completely if they allow it, or ask them to put it in bridge or passthrough mode and use your own router behind it.

I guess as long as their router handles routing and NAT sufficiently you could ask them to just turn off wifi and use your own AP (without routing functionality ideally), but then some day you’re going to want to create a DHCP reservation or do something else that again will require a call to them, so I’d just take them out of the picture as much as possible.

Worst case if they insist on having their device in router mode, just put a second router behind it. Double NAT isn’t an issue for most people and there should not be any noticeable latency increase.
