Need heavy rainproof hood for Battery Cam Pro

I’m mounting a battery cam pro at a balcony which sees heavy rain. My best solution would be a hood that I can wear for the camera like a cap, but unfortunately the one I found on Amazon is for Ring. Any recommended hood for this camera?

If you search for like “outdoor camera cover” you’ll find lots of generic options. But the cam is waterproof and doesn’t technically need one.

I’m also unsure of why a hood might be needed for this, but I can understand why something like that might be desired. Is 3D printing an option for you? I found this in a search:

You might be able to find other options, and with something like that you could have your choice of colors depending on what kind of filament you use.

Welcome to the Forum, @balog!

Wyze claims they are waterproof but they really aren’t. I’ve had several V3 cameras outside that were not in direct rain yet condensation still got inside the outer glass of the lens. This leads me to believe the quality control for production is severely lacking.

This looks awesome, thank you. I’ll explore making a print.

I agree that they’re not really waterproof. Even the documentation says it’s not meant to receive heavy slapping rainfall, the type I expect where I’m installing the camera.

That’s been reported with v3s by a few users. I haven’t had a v3 but my Panv3s, v4, OGs, and OG-TEL are all in direct rain, hot sun, bitter cold, etc. None have had any issues other than a Panv3 I had mounted upside down which got some water in it. Learned not to mount them upside down without something over them.

It certainly can’t hurt. Hasn’t been an issue with any of my cams in 2.5 years but I also haven’t had a battery cam and that does have more openings. The Panv3 upside down is a known issue, and people have reported water in the lens on the v3s so being cautious isn’t a bad thing. Helping to shield any battery powered device from the sun will help with battery longevity (to a certain extent) too.

You’re welcome, and I hope that’s helpful. I think an advantage of doing something like that is that you can potentially modify the model before fabricating it so that it suits your needs. That’s what I did with a Video Doorbell v2 mount that I “printed” at a local library.
