My Wyze Cam v3 was bricked yesterday during your latest firmware update. It’s completely inoperative. The red light comes on, but that’s all. No video. I am not able to reset the camera by pushing on the reset button on the bottom of the camera, even if I click the switch on for 30 seconds or more. I doubt if the camera can accept an older firmware flash because the camera is completely broke. Unless you have a definite fix for my v3 that I’m not aware of, then I’m going to request that my Wyze Cam v3 be replaced with a new one. By the way, I’m not going to allow any of my 13 or so other cameras to receive firmware updates until you resolve the issues with your new firmware and the issue with my broke v3. I will provide my contact information upon request.
This is a user to user forum for the most part, your best bet would be to contact support.
The setup button may have some corrosion in it. You can try using something pointed (but not sharp) to press it harder, try to move it around a bit. If you can get it to respond, then you should be able to do the firmware downgrade procedure.
It sounds like the firmware update failed, maybe the connection was interrupted, or the wifi signal is borderline where the camera is. Obviously it is your call whether you want to update the other cams or not.
I have Auto Updates for firmware Off in my App. I like to update each v3 individually to see if each update goes smoothly.
You could try manually flashing the firmware. The latest v3 firmware from March of this year is on this link, so you may not need to try an older version. All of my v3 cameras are on firmware 4.36.16.6114 and working fine.
There is nothing wrong with the switch. There is no dirt in it. It’s been covered by a neoprene rubber seal since I purchased the camera. The only way a firmware flash will work is if the switch is able to activate the existing firmware or some other code in memory to start the setup process. The switch does nothing. It’s bricked. By the way, I did contact support by phone and they wrote up a repair ticket (or whatever they call it). I received no reply by Wyze since then. I sent them an email. Wyze does not reply to emails sent to their customer support team. They advised me to go to this forum or to their channels on social media for help. I just want them to replace my broken camera. I shouldn’t have to spend days or weeks solving this issue because of their poorly written firmware. They broke it in two minutes, but they expect me to spend days or weeks trying to fix it myself when my camera does not work at all. No setup function, only a continuous red light on the front, which flashes off then on once every 5 or 10 minutes. Thanks for your comment and suggestions.
How do you know there is nothing wrong with the button? It is not uncommon for the setup button to get some corrosion in it from moisture causing it to not make contact. You wouldn’t feel this, the button would feel like it pushes in fine. Sometimes pushing it more firmly (multiple times) with something will help. All else fails you can remove the rubber cover and try getting some rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner down in it and then pushing the button a bunch of times. Obviously that impacts the water resistance of the cam though.
If the cam is more than about a year old they probably won’t replace it. May offer you a partial credit toward a replacement cam.
Others have used the firmware without issue, what proof do you have that it wasn’t a connectivity issue or power blip? Not saying it is or is not the fault of wyze, just saying how can you know one way or the other?
You’re stuck in a boot loop which means the firmware is corrupted. Unfortunately the only way to get around that is to get the setup button working and do the manual flash from SD card.
Maybe the button is fine. Sometimes the manual flash takes a couple of tries. Make sure the file is in the root of the SD card, the SD card is 32GB or less formatted to FAT32, and you’re holding the button as soon as you plug it in and keep holding it until it seems to do something.
As Dave said, the button not being overly responsive is pretty common. If you are pressing with your finger, it is VERY common for it not to respond. Use a tool (not sharp) to do the press. I have used a pair of needle nose pliers (that have a good 1/16th inch flat nose). I have also used the back end of a drill bit that is 1/8 inch or a little smaller.
BTW, every single one of my V3 cameras (15 of them) are running 4.36.16.7064 and they are all working, so I am pretty certain that the firmware is not defective.
This all sounds so frustrating. Yes wyze should replace it. Write a letter to the head of wyze. Buy a new one and send bill. I am so sorry, i rarely update as a result.
