So…when do we see the launch of the peepHackster™ YouTube channel where you do those comparisons that we could share with others?
Bah. I suck. Somebody young and sparkly should do it and keep themselves off cam for the most part, say as little as possible, let the visuals speak.
Or somebody old. I don’t care. But not me.
You’re young. YOU!! ![]()
I view youth in relative terms, but I’m definitely not sparkly. I’m no Twilight
(and I like how What We Do in the Shadows makes fun of that).
I’m in favor of explanatory voiceover from a competent human presenter. I abhor AI-generated voiceover. That get’s the ol’ YouTube
from me, and a bonus single-digit gesticulation may also be involved.
Probably not in my lifetime, I would love that ability though.
In the 90s they said people used ~10% of the features of big programs. Is it different now? Because the vast majority are comfortable and inclined to do this:
Public Service Announcement
The utilities that live under the Monitoring tab are related in function but are not necessarily interactive. Exploring the interfaces and experimenting is the best way to find out. There is no manual.
So we don’t need no video guidance and the like?
I don’t have an answer to the first two questions, and I wouldn’t even know how to quantify that. I would guess that with several applications I use fairly regularly (e.g., LibreOffice suite, GIMP, Inkscape) I probably use <10% of the available features, but I don’t see that as a problem. I see these as complex tools that can be used for a variety of purposes, and that allows for a lot of flexibility amongst the usership.
Regarding the second question and your quote about the lack of a manual, that brings to mind similar discussions on the Forum where some users have expressed dismay over not having a comprehensive PDF user manual, but I’m not sure how useful something like that would be. Wyze seems to have some of that “move fast and break things” operating philosophy, so I imagine that some video guidance might not age well and because of that might not be worth devoting a lot of resources to. For solid features that are likely to be in place and not change (much) over time, though, I think there would be a definite benefit to some users to have kind of an “app walk through” video.
Good points. I guess I’m suggesting that many folks will never know about a feature
that might be well suited to their needs because they’re not adventurous, comfortable exploring and experimenting, getting things wrong, maybe getting stuck and having to seek help, etc. Most people I know are pretty impatient. Just sayin’. I don’t know everyone. ![]()
On the multi-cam timeline, with a group of four cams displayed, if you want to expand the view of a single cam, double-tap the image. Double-tap again and it shrinks back to the group.
Another way to do this is to de-select three of the cams in the timeline by tapping the icon for each.
If you want to view 2 cams in expanded view, de-select the two cams you don’t want to see.
If you want to view 3 cams - one expanded and two not - deselect one of the cams.
If you are viewing the timeline cams LIVE you can tap the landscape icon and the group is displayed full screen 4-up; that is, the screen is evenly divided into quarters, a single cam in each quadrant. If you only have 2 cams selected on the timeline view, only two of the quadrants will display a cam, the other two will be blank.
To ‘zoom’ a single LIVE cam from multi-view to full screen landscape: double-tap the image, then tap the landscape icon. To return to multi-view, tap ‘back’.
Orrrrr…
A video demo-ing same. ![]()

In addition to the reasons you listed, I’d add UI that doesn’t lend itself to intuition. (Heh: “intUItion”. Sometimes I see things and amuse myself very easily.) Two specific examples come to mind:
- The control strip below the viewer pane on the Live Stream screen for “new” UI Wyze cameras can be swiped or scrolled to reveal additional features (Siren, Album, Timelapse, etc.). This isn’t as obvious as it could be, so a lot of users miss that.
- I had no idea until I read an offhand @spamoni comment (I’m pretty sure) in a topic once that it’s possible to “zoom” the microSD card recording timeline with a “spread” or “anti-pinch” gesture, and it’s not something I ever thought to try.
I think you’re making good points about demo videos. What would be really cool is if Wyze designers would provide input for that kind of content to show off the features they’ve built into the app.

Yeah, ‘make it like tinyCam’ is my go-to. I think Wyze would if they could - why wouldn’t they, I think they know the difference - but are constrained by the platform they’re programming in and what and how they’ve already built. And and and.

Absolutely. A great base for customer demo-ers to start from.
“spread” or “anti-pinch” gesture
I didn’t know what anti-pinch was called so looked it up and apparently the feature started in Apple stuff and they settled on pinch-in and pinch-out - to correspond with zoom- I guess.
Beeb, would you make a screen cap video to demo a feature extensively? Not asking you to, just wondering. ![]()
(Later)
(Hmm, maybe I do want him to make one and I’m unaware of my own motives. Is that fair, would I want someone to pressure me, even if it was subconscious and I couldn’t blame them?)
(Well, he is in the graphics field, he’s probably done UI stuff, is it too much to ask for him to screen record which is completely automatic in Apple?)
(If only I had a lot more emojis to sort out my emotions on this. We would all be better off.
)

I’ve seen and heard “pinch” for the gesture of spreading two fingers, but in my brain “pinch” is bringing the fingers together, so “anti-pinch” or “spread” (which I’ve also seen) makes more sense to me.
Reading “pinch-out” makes me want to respond as I imagine Lewis Black might.
Spread, of course, that’s the word I couldn’t think of the other day! So,
pushes you up against the wall: 'Anti-pinch ‘em!’
Good black clip! ![]()
Right before the
pinches ya?

I was reading Raymond Chandler e-books for a while (and some Dashiell Hammett) and bookmarked that on my phone to have a quick reference available for the lingo.
It’s not intuitive. I’m having to think about which is the best path/utility to achieve what I’m after. Which is work.
Ok, three days after I wrote this
after having muscled through the features’ functions til I felt I knew them well, I’ve been using them in the course of my regular activities and I’m finding some satisfaction in their use, not so much work. So good. ![]()

Not sure what feature you are referring to old man? If you are asking for adding one device to multiple groups, that feature is not available yet.
beeb!
Hypothetical. Any feature you’d explored extensively and wanted to share what you’d learned with the world.
Old man. ![]()
To The World:
-
Do you think screen recording video demos of app features is effective and worth doing?
-
If you do think they’re worth doing why do you think more people (& Wyze) don’t do them?
The
guy I remember uploading screen recordings most often is @gyzmo but mostly to illustrate bugs and such.

Hello @WyzeJasonJ, Since de update on april 21 (2.10.62), when your cams are in groups, there is the delay before viewing your cam in HD. When you click a thumbnail, the view is in 360P with a message « please wait ». After 2-12 secongs the cam auto switch in HD. If I change the view in landscape, the view freeze frequently. When the cam is not in group, when you click on it, the live view is directly in HD…no waiting time, no freezing etc… First video: without groups. Second vi…
