Mesh router for outdoors

I just looked on the TP-Link site and it says Matter Certified. Now I am not sure what that means, but this is the only one that is. So now I wonder if you can Pair Matter devices directly to the Routers

I think this is worthy of mentioning too. I have an Echo Dot in every room. Triggers for routines as motion sensors and voice control. Most have the clock so dual purpose. Even have them in the Attics, just in case I do something while up there and need to call EMS for help.

But I have two locations where they just continue to drop offline. Sometimes its a day after or a week after, but sooner or later, they drop offline. I’ve swapped out current with different ones. I’ve fallen back to 3rd gen and tried 5th gen. No matter, sooner or later, they drop offline.

This has happened with eero, ASUS, Samsung, even a Linksys Extender close by including the TP-Link 6e units. But since I replaced the 6e with 7, nary a problem. Excellent strength. I’ve tried both 2.4 and 5, made no difference. but though it should not matter, each of those to locations are doing just fine with the BE63 WiFi 7 routers. I don’t get it, but worth mentioning.

So it might be worth going with the 7’s (BE63) then? What about distance, have you noticed an increase?

Specifically? No, But, Yes. I have some Sonoff sensors that sometimes seem to go offline. A couple of times had to add them back to 6 & 6e, but no 7. The three Sonoff’s that were a problem were within the overlapping circle between two nodes. Using the TP-Link’s Connection Preference, made no difference, as regardless of node A or B still occurred. I am thinking this is better signal strength on 2.4 since nothing else has changed.

As for greater distance on 2.4, I can’t judge that. Since with TP-Link’s Connection Preference feature, less drop-offs. Funny how, you watch for a problem, its on the outlier edge of your mind, as you are mindful, its likely to occur so you think about it. Then when the problem seems to stop happening, you quickly stop thinking about it, watching for it, and don’t notice its gone.

All manufacturers are claiming better range, better strength with 7 over even 6e. I can’t measure significant differences, but I do believe as some of my on-going repeated issues have suddenly just stopped with the swap from 6e to 7 as the only difference. So, I will say, yes - better - at least enough to be a noticeable difference. Glad I did it.

Let me take this thread in a slightly different direction. Shooting WiFi 350 feet, one might consider a high gain outdoor antenna if your connector will fit or you don’t mind Macgyver-ing the connection.

A buddy of mine added this to his Deco setup:

He can now go 350+ feet as well. It is outdoor rated.

Wow. Didn’t know about this. And its not a bad price for a single node to add to existing too. thanks. Good to know stuff.

I thought so as well. It is amazing the distance he gets. He has 2 BCPs which monitor deer and other wild life. Went from choppy videos to full smooth video’s at higher resolution.
