Mean Ol' Stinky

Stinky is trying to run off the regular customers.

He’s brave. Most are defensive and turn their rear to threats. Charging face first is impressive. Even their claws are mostly dull foraging claws compared to the raccoons. If you get more than 1 stinky, this one needs a suitable brave or aggressive name.

I’m glad he went face first and didn’t use his defensive weapon. That smell stays around for a long time.

Actually, they avoid spraying as much as they can as it puts tremendous stress on their system. In some instances they’ll go into a short coma. That’s how coyotes get to eat them without getting sprayed.

I read yesterday that they can turn their body in a U shape so they can look at the threat and aim their rear toward the threat. It also said the can spray a mist or a stream. I had a personal close up experience with the spray when I was about 12, I don’t want to repeat the experience.

Interesting. It was my understanding that they had enough in their tank for at least 5 controlled sprays.

I wasn’t saying they would spray often though. I was mostly talking about more of the threat of spraying to scare animals away, where they lift their tail, or sometimes do a handstand with their rear in the air. That often scares animals away.

I didn’t realize before now that it was common to charge face first before the other threats.

:skunk: :raccoon:

I have seen many videos of baby skunks doing their little charge/stomp. It is almost as cute as baby goats jumping.

I spend WAY to much time watching FB Reels.

That is the only reason I have cameras, to watch the wildlife passing through my yard.
Here are a couple of funny skunk vids.
Lot of skunk stomping on the first vid.

Dancing skunk and a good attack possum. I think the possums that come in my yard every night have an understanding wiith all the cats and raccoons that they frequently meet during their adventures.
