So I have been using Wyze for a while both on iOS and MacOS and the MacOS app needs more attention.\
Even though I’m inside the house with an Wifi AC connection with little interference from other networks and big 512GB and 256GB SD cards on the cameras the video clips from the camera sometimes never load, the UI locks when trying to watch a clip.
Another big issue is that it seems the MacOS app doesn’t accommodate to computer screens. Even though I can change the window between landscape portrait and full screen the clips remain tiny compared with the window which could help to identity clips faster.
One last thing, I understand that you are following the closed garden Apple model but this are security cameras, how come I cannot access the video feed locally without internet connection. Imagine a situation where the internet goes away due a power outage (like it happens here) and I can’t even access the feed within my own house.
Yes I know about the old firmware that allows it, that’s why I haven’t upgraded the firmware on my old cameras but this should be part of the system
Welcome to the forum, Wyze has no official support for Mac OS. The MacOS app is an iPad app that Mac OS is able to run. The only official support from Wyze is iOS and Android.
This might actually be also an issue for iPad users, I mean it works on your humongous screen but in a laptop or iPad the clips are too small, there is a lot of wasted real state around the clips.
Now I get it. Unfortunately the Wyze app is severely crippled in landscape mode as you are aware. What you see above is MacOS attempting to project portrait pages into a landscape mode. Wyze has been working hard on full landscape mode since 2018
Glad to hear I’m not the only one. It also has issues in portrait mode. I mean the table cells should be at least a percentage of the screen width but it seems they have a fixed width because in landscape they do stretch albeit horizontally only leaving that empty space between the preview and the power button. It makes more sense to have those elements around the preview or have a list/icon toggle
Yes, looks like Wyze is cutting corners everywhere. I bet the app programmers are the ones who double in design as Wyze obviously can’t afford real UI/UX Designers.
As a Mac user, I am glad for being able to monitor the cameras while I work. There is of course room for improvement. Full screen multi camera viewing modes would be nice. Not too excited about going through a web browser, though I understand the programming advantage.
Notifications issue on Mac OS, when deleting notifications, the app runs through all the recordings, which then ends up freezing the app.
These are cheap cameras, one reason we have them, and they give a reasonable image for the price. If it wasn’t for the subscriptions, I am not sure WYZE would make any profits.
Not sure if you are aware but there is no official Wyze support on a Mac. It just happens that the iPad app as many other apps runs on Silicon class powered Macs as they share the same chip architecture. Just like you can run Windows on Intel powered Macs.
