Lesson learned, V4 limitation

Apparently the V4 cams won’t add to the Cam Plus Lite. Wyze’s way of forcing into a subscription.
Looks like I’ll be hunting for other cams.

Have you tried using your v4 without a subscription? With an SD card set to Continuous Recording when the App shows still picture of motion, you can click on Playback to view the SD card video.

Everything works except for the 12 second thing

The cloud events were costing them too much money, so it was unsustainable.

They decided to allow grandfathered users with grandfathered cameras to keep it, but they no longer allow new users to get it, even with old cameras, and they won’t add the service to new models either.

But honestly, it’s not really needed. The new cameras work great without it just using the SD card. Almost every other option out there does the same now too: either use internal storage like an SD card, or pay a subscription.

Main things I wish Wyze would do differently at their price point is offer free local/edge AI detection, and RTSP.

Just like the competition does.

I think this is the real Cam v4 limitation.

Agreed. They’ll learn this eventually. I think their hands will eventually be forced to offer basic AI detections for free locally like a lot of competitors are doing, And then use the subscription for cloud storage, and more accurate and advanced AI features with LLMs that can’t reasonably easily be done locally. Though it is getting better. There are some interesting projects using a local hub running a local llm that are pretty cool.

That is the exact reason I’m thinking of jumping ship once my cameras reach EOL. The only reason I haven’t scrapped the ones I have is because I like the quality, but the competition is catching up and surpassing Wyze’s offerings. I have no use for advanced AI, all I need is person detection and nothing else.
