Honest answer, because I did not want to answer with an ‘I don’t know’ and so far all I have managed to come up with is what is already on this forum, that it is being ‘researched’. I was hoping to come in here with a better answer than that, but I did see your question and am actively trying to get some new information to you.
Perhaps a poll of the folks at Wyze responsible for making the decision to fix this issue, or continue to string us along for another four years:
Do they use an iPad in Landscape mode with a keyboard attached?
If not, why do they not have an iPad with a keyboard attached, using the Wyze app in Landscape mode?
I’d be willing to donate to the cause of putting an iPad Pro 12.9" in the hands of the programmer(s) that is responsible for fixing this issue.
524 votes for this issue as of today… 524 x $10 = $5,240 … that’ll buy five devices before taxes:
I’d donate with one stipulation, if the Wyze V4 app isn’t released in one year working properly in Landscape on iPads (and Android Tablets), our donations are refunded due to lack of performance on Wyze’s part.
Here’s some guidance for your iPadOS/iPhone programmers:
I am going to speak as a fellow user right now and guess as to why it is this way, I also guess they would not tell me if I was right.
When they started this they seemed to go with the plan of a camera that can be viewed on a mobile device. When someone mentions a mobile device to me I think mobile phone. So they came out with the cam that can be viewed on a mobile phone. Then people started to say I want to be able to view it on my PC and I want to view it on my tablet properly. When they finally decided to move on one they went towards the louder voice and the view on PC had many more votes than the view properly on tablet. I am guessing thats why they went that direction. If my thoughts are correct when the view on PC is resolved via WebView they will fix the tablet issue. I also hope they fix it as I do own a tablet, although it is one that can now not be used with Wyze since the app no longer supports my old tablet. I do intend to get a new one and use it for security purposes and part of that is the Wyze app and I would like it to be in landscape when i do that. Again, that is me as a user who has been here a few years just guessing why things are as they are.
I have to figure out who the responsible people are first, I am working as part of the community facing side so I do not have a list of programmers and engineers that work on each item.
I doubt it, have you tried using it on a tablet, its not very user friendly lol.
This one I am curious about also, that is a good question.
They are on version 2.xx right now, I am not sure they would get all the way to 4 by then end of the year, I was hoping for v3.
All joking aside, I am only working for Wyze to cover for Gwen during their time off, I am seeing if I can get any new information but I may not in my limited time allotted.
IMO, Wyze Web view is a mess. Instead of splintering off into another ‘thing’, why not have a united interface that works the same on the iPhone, the android phone, the iPad, the Tablet and a Web interface?
I submitted a wish list on this, and appears to have died on the vine:
Exactly…
If they were forced to use a Tablet (android and/or iPad) in Landscape mode, with a keyboard, This issue would be resolved much sooner that 4+ years.
AT LEAST allow the App to rotate to be usable on an iPad (Android Tablet users have 3rd party software that forces an app to rotate to be usable if I understand correctly)
Ok, so I can’t count… Yes, the next major version, which would be v3
The Wyze app is also a bit of a hot mess
IMO being held together with duct tape and bailing wire.
It needs to be scrapped and recreated from the ground up.
I’m guessing Wyze will continue to add more layers of duct tape, and bailing wire to the hot mess.
Continuing with a non unified user interface and experience, will never serve Wyze customer’s well.
App UI: Having an interface when displaying Camera Group in Landscape mode
When using a camera group in landscape mode, there is no actual UI or anything. I will allow you to see all camera in the group and tap one camera to get it full screen, but there is no button or anything to go back to the list of device/groups. You must rotate to portrait mode to get the link to the previous level and the UI.
Can you add a minimum UI so we are not forced to go to portrait mode every time to go back?
I do understand the menu itself is only in portrait, but I do not need to rotate to switch to another group or camera, I can tap it so it is ok. (improvement here would be welcome too, but not part of this initial request. Here I only want to be able to navigate back out from a camera group in landscape mode, that is all)
Hello @theclickman,
Welcome to the dungeon where ideas go to die. Sorry you have found your self here, but happy to have another inmate in the dungeon.
Feel free to go to the top of this four year old thread that apparently is a wishlist for Unicons, Lollipops, and Wyze Apps that work properly in Landscape Mode, and cast your vote… perhaps 530 votes is the magic number that breaks us all lose from the gnashing of teeth, and darkness of this dungeon.
I still have hope that Wyze will Nuke and Pave the current Hot Mess of the Wyze v2 App, in favor Wyze v3 App that will behave as a real iPad (and Android Tablet) app respecting this thing called … Landscape.
Be sure and read through four years of “Excitment” for this thing called “Landscape” and enjoy the journey to anguish and despair as some dungeon occupants find a way to flee the pain, others, like myself… stay, and tap on the walls of this Wyze Dungeon, hoping, praying, pleading for a solution to this pain….
I look forward to you joining in with the party……
Please don’t flee right away…. join me in attempting to move this mountain…… and if you don’t think you can bear the pain of being ignored by Wyze… feel free to flee to save your sanity….
Thanks for the welcome, hope I can find a bed or a plank in this dungeon that do not require to stay in portrait mode to sleep over it
I did vote right away after this entry was added, but I did also ask the support first… as it start with a bug (there is NO navigation button in landscape mode when you look at a camera group so…) and I was directed in this lovely… prison, forever waiting to be released along with our dream of an application that work both way…
I agree for the most part. I leave open the possibility that Wyze isn’t that cynical (or ‘pragmatist’) in its management of customers. There’s evidence of that here. They tolerate hard criticism and don’t discourage links to outside voices.
Sorry about that. Facebook is the rubber house. I’m assuming Wyze has more customers on that platform than this one (there are about 100K here) and that a shared issue there has a greater potential to spread.
I have literally zero experience with Facebook. I dislike saying its name.
It look to me Wyze developers are not even looking… UI/UX was “left” aside to the benefit of new, better “money making” products, and the flaws of the UI/UX were left for “undetermined later”.
I know the music, being a developer myself, I know how management actually do things. I don’t blame the devs, they are doing what they are told to do. The problem lies into the ones driving the ToDo list.
Unless there is a brand new v3 app coming in on which those UI/UX items are properly taken care of, it smell like current version will live that way forever.
That said, here in this dungeons we are locked in into with barely visits from our wardens, we are open to help. If you have some issues of the kind “we are not sure what is the best UI to build to solve that” and just wait for someone to actually decide what to do (and usually it end at a “it is not my job it is his job” infinite loop), we here are willing to help, should you decorate our bricks and tags wall of this dungeons with concept, we could help you to choose what would be the best.
Whatever we can do to help going the right way and get freed from this prison of a topic, we are here and likely going nowhere.
If the problem is only of the type “updating UI cost and do not make money” kind of an issue due to (greedy/not understanding) management, you may tell them that is is wrong, a well built UI/UX can improve sales significantly, just because users are pleased and are more likely to purchase other items or talk about it. The “smile” effect I would call it.
If it is any other reason… please enlighten us. we want to know! we want to help! we want to receive a landscape oriented sock and become free elves!!!
