I recently purchased one CAM Pan v4 and two Lamp Socket v2 units, based on the information on your website stating they are compatible. However, I was disappointed to discover—confirmed by your live support team—that the CAM Pan v4 does not have an accessory option to add the Lamp Socket v2.
This was quite frustrating and feels misleading. I strongly encourage you to update the compatibility information on your website to reflect the actual capabilities of your products. Accuracy in product listings is essential for maintaining trust with your customers and building a reliable brand.
At this point, I’m fine since I also have a CAM v4 and a Pan v3, both of which do support the Lamp Socket v2 accessory. However, both of the Socket units are experiencing the same issue: the motion-activated lighting only works once—typically after adjusting the camera’s sensitivity—and then fails to activate again. I’ve followed all the recommended troubleshooting steps and even reached out to live support, but unfortunately, nothing has resolved the problem.
This seems to be a buggy product, and I hope your team can look into these issues seriously.
I don’t speak for Wyze, but I want to comment about some things in your post:
I believe (I’m speculating to some degree) that the Lamp Socket v2’s product page lists Cam Pan v4 compatibility at least in part because of its power output. Lamp Socket v1’s USB port is listed at 5V ⎓ 1A output, but Lamp Socket v2’s USB port is listed at 5V ⎓ 2A, which means that the newer version can reliably power Cam Pan v3, Cam Pan v4, and other devices that require a higher current.
There was another topic here in the Forum just recently about how the Accessories section seems to be missing from the Settings for Cam Pan v4, but that topic currently appears to be missing, so I’ve put in a note to the Moderators to try to learn what happened with that. I mention it because I intended to link to it from this topic, as I believe the discussion there might have been helpful.
The FAQs section of Lamp Socket v2’s product page specifically mentions Automations, but when I try to create a new Automation even now I’m not seeing any Lamp Socket v2s (I’m currently using 3) available to select for Actions, so I suspect this is a missing feature that has yet to be built and deployed. I’ve reached out to Wyze for information on this. I mention this specifically because even without an Accessories section in Cam Pan v4 Settings (which I expect to be built into an app update at some point), if you had your Lamp Socket v2s properly configured with a compatible camera that does have an Accessories section, then you should still be able to use an Automation triggered by Cam Pan v4 to turn Lamp Socket v2s on or off.
I realize that probably doesn’t ease your frustration. I’ve been frustrated by Wyze communication, as well. I don’t think they’re the worst offenders, but it’s still disappointing to see unforced errors.
How are you trying to get this to work? What have you set up in the app to activate your lights? I’m using two Lamp Socket v2s in a storage room that automatically turn on the lights for 5 minutes whenever the Cam v4 in there detects a person, and sometimes there’s a bit of lag between my triggering the camera and the lights turning on, but it works every time for me, and the lights stay on as long as the camera can still see me and detect me as a person.
Please be aware that this is primarily a user-to-user support community, so you’re generally not communicating directly with Wyze, though Wyze Team members do sometimes engage users here in the Forum.
Same. I wish I’d read this post instead of believing the product page (which I shouldn’t have to do). The camera is powered but I have no control over the lamp socket, which means I can’t even turn the light off during the daytime without also cutting power to the camera. I decided to go ahead and spend a little extra to get 4K since it was available and now I’m really disappointed that it doesn’t look like this is going to work. Pan cam v4 is listed as compatible right at the top of the listing on lamp socket v2 like a headline.
I share your frustration with this, and I’ve just put in another note to try to get some clarification from Wyze about this issue. Thank you for adding your voice to the discussion. This is something I’d really like to see resolved.
@zcchai & @emily13, I heard back from someone at Wyze today, and if I correctly understood everything then they’re reportedly working on an “Accessories” section in Cam Pan v4’s settings for a future app release (currently projected for next month) so that Lamp Socket v2 will be fully compatible with Cam Pan v4. They’ve also made some changes to the Web site so that it should be more clear that Cam Pan v4 compatibility is “coming soon”.
Thank you both for taking the time to share your thoughts about this!
@Crease appreciate the info and I see the update on the product page for lamp socket v2. I do hope it comes in the next month as I don’t even have the simple functionality that I did with the lamp socket v1.
I don’t have any experience with Lamp Socket v1, but if you have one of those then hopefully that means you’re using a camera that’s compatible with that and maybe you could get some use out of Lamp Socket v2 while waiting for delivery of Cam Pan v4 compatibility. Supposedly it’s possible to use both versions together.
I don’t yet have any further information about using Automations with Lamp Socket v2, but that’s something I’d really like to see happen, so hopefully that’s another capability they’ll consider adding at some point.
hi @Crease@emily13 Thanks for following up and chiming in. Fingers crossed—let’s see what the new app brings us!
By the way, I did notice the automation. It looks promising, but it’s still not working quite right (maybe buggy?). I can’t find the “Add Action” option for Turn on Lamp Socket v2, even though that action does appear under Essential Automations – Lights on if I’m home.
I think the issue might be that Lamp Socket v2 was never properly added or recognized as a device, so I’m unable to add any device-specific actions for it.
Good catch! It’s been a while since I’ve looked at those, as I generally create something specific if I want an Automation. I wouldn’t have thought to check there, but I definitely see it, so that indicates that it should be available as an Action. I’m going to mention that to the person from Wyze who contacted me yesterday, too. Thank you for sharing that!
I just wanted to apologize for the confusion. This was something I should have caught on the website/faq/other documentation, and we’re doing our best to make it clear for anyone considering the same setup as you going forward. Compatibility is coming soon.
You didn’t build the product! I genuinely appreciate your candor and taking the time to provide an update here. I like seeing official word that we can look forward to feature updates with this. Thank you for doing that!
It looks like the compatibility is available in the latest beta app release if anyone here is interested in testing:
I don’t have an immediate application for using these two products together, so I’m comfortable waiting for a future production app release, but I wanted to share this as an FYI.
Note that they issued a call-out several months ago specifically for iOS testers and are limited on that platform, I think because of Apple’s restrictions. With Android, it’s much easier to enter and leave the beta app channel at will. Since this particular feature is in the new beta app, I think it’s fair to expect to see it in production next month if you’re unable to join the iOS beta program and are willing to wait.
Thanks for the heads up. I installed the beta app (android) and tested the socket V2 with the pan cam v4. I can now see the sockets as an accessory on the pan. Everything appears to be working correctly and the motion, schedule, and on/off controls are now available. Still seems like there are fewer options with the V2 socket compared to the V1, but I no longer have the V1 installed and can’t confirm.
