I would like to de-link Outdoor Cams from a malfunctioning Base Station and to re-link them to a brandnew spare Base Station. Is there any smart way to replace Base Stations for Outdoor Cams which are not easily accessible? (While connected to solar power panels, my Outdoor Cams are mounted at very high locations outdoors.)
If your base is broken and the cameras are not connected to it you are out of luck. The cameras have to be deleted from the base while ONLINE, they are tied to their original base forvever unless you delete the cams first while online then the base. This was done by design that if someone stole your WCO they could not set it up on another base.
@poor_financier If what Antonius says is true, which I suspect that it is, I would contact support and see what they can do for you.
It is WYZE’s WiFi base that stopped working and now that it has, it has rendered your cameras inoperable. If I were in your shoes I would definitely be reaching out to support.
I understand what WYZE was attempting to accomplish with their design. However, since the cameras are on your WYZE account, I would hope and think that they have a way to override things such that you can associate them with a different base on your account.
If not, anyone that has a base that bellies up is left with paperweights for cameras and a very bad taste in their mouth.
Watching this thread, as I have multiple WCO v1s and one V2, and 3 of my 4 bases in use. Would be a shame if Wyze is unable to look at my account and free up any WCO’s that are left ‘abandoned’ by a failed Base.
@Antonius The way I read the information in your last post: As long as the cameras are not deleted from the account, one may be able to set them up on a different base tied to that same account.
Granted, the info you posted does not specifically state that, but it does seem the key is not deleting the base or the cams from the WYZE account when the base takes a crap.
The article you linked states if the cams are left on your account, you will receive a notification when someone attempts to configure them with a new/different base. I would hope WYZE would be smart enough to see that “new base” is on your own account and therefore move the cams to the new base and forgo any notification(s). Of course that makes logical sense, which unfortunately is not always the way WYZE products operate.
Regardless, @poor_financier, I hope you have not deleted the cams or the defective base from your WYZE account! If you have, you may be completely SOL? If the cams and bad base are still on your account, I would place a small wager that WYZE support could work some magic to get your cams up and running on a replacement base. With that said, I suspect it will take major effort on your part to make that happen.
The Key is that you have to delete the cams from the base they were originally set up on while ONLINEconntected to the origianl base, account means The camera are tied to the original base for life unless you delete the both while they are still working and connected, cams first, then the base while ONLINE.
You will get no help ffrom WYZE. This Issue has been goning on for at least six years for members deleting problem WCO that were off line and could never connect them again. Numerous post in the last 6 years. Lucky for me my WCO v1 cams and base are still alive and working since 4 Nov. 2020. When they go to camera heaven/or WYZE hell no more battey powered cams for me.
I own a couple Outdoor Cam V1s. I bought them during the early release period. Honestly, the worst WYZE camera product I have ever purchased. I know some people really like them, but not this guy.
They have sat mostly collecting dust after about 6-months of use. I did dig one out to give it another try at one point, but that was very short lived. Early on, I spent some time with one of the founders troubleshooting issues here on the forum. Both he and I gave up on the v1’s.
I swore to myself then that I would NEVER buy another WiFi product (WYZE or otherwise) that requires its own base to operate. Remarkably enough, WYZE also saw the light and stopped doing that after the v2 Outdoor camera. For some reason I have held on to the gear and have yet to take it to the recycling center where it belongs. Of course I still have WYZE cam v2’s laying around as well. One v2 is actually still in use for the bridge/sensor capability associated with my front door.
