I thought a good security thing to set up is if someone is trying to break in, I can sound all the camera sirens? Is this possible to set up?
And is it possible to have Google assistant trigger the sirens on all, or at least one of my cameras?
You can use an automation to either manually trigger them or have one of any number of automatic triggers. Just add every camera and the action “turn on alarm for x minutes”.
Not sure if google assistant can trigger an automation or not, someone else will have to comment on that.
I have 3 floodlights around the house. I set up an automation to sound their sirens and starred it so it appears as a button in the “Favorites” tab. I just have to be careful not to accidentally press that one button.
There’s a turn off button right beside it.
@wstt, you can have Google Assistant initiate actions within Wyze Automations, but why would you want to in this case? What would be the purpose in involving another system, and what would be the actual trigger or triggering event?
I’m not saying that there wouldn’t be a reason to do this or that it’s wrong. I’m just trying to have a better understanding of the request.
As @dave27 said, you can just do this sort of thing with Automations in the Wyze app. You could do this manually with a Shortcut:
- DO
- Camera 1
- Turn on the siren
- Camera 2
- Turn on the siren
- â‹Ż
- Camera 1
…or automatically with a Device & Service Trigger:
- IF
- Camera 1
- Detects Motion
- Camera 1
- DO
- Camera 1
- Turn on the siren
- Camera 2
- Turn on the siren
- â‹Ż
- Camera 1
You could do both.
You could have multiple Device & Service Triggers, one for each camera (i.e., IF > Camera 2 > Detects Motion > [turn on all sirens], etc.). If you have subscriptions, then you could trigger off “Detects a person”, “Detects a vehicle”, or whatever.
I believe the siren duration is 30 seconds unless you manually turn it off (for each camera, though you could also do this all at once with a proper Shortcut), but I’m not about to create some Automations and test it at this hour.
I have mine setup to do something similar. I have several cameras around my house trigger the siren if my HMS alarm triggers. I also have one that turns on several sirens if any of my leak sensors detect a leak. I also have all sirens turn off any time I disarm my system or cancel an HMS alarm. I also have a couple of shortcuts setup to turn trigger sirens on most cameras and one that turns off all sirens.
I did all that using Wyze Rules alone.
I may eventually migrate many of those rules to let home assistant control the sirens instead now that someone added that feature to work in Home assistant, but I think the only way to have Google Assistant do it is through a workaround.
havong it possible with Google asssitant would be great if you heard someone trying to break in at night.
Is it easy to do with rules through Wyze?
I would want the Google assistant option in case at night I hear someone trying to break in. I would think with the lights off saying hey Google sound Wyze Sitens would be easier to do than to find my phone and open the app and set them off. Plus, once I found my phone I’d be calling 911 first.
One easy workaround way to get it to work in Google Assistant is to do something like the following:
- buy a Wyze indoor plug that you’re never going to plug anything into And set it up, and name it. Something like “Alarm”
- link Wyze to Google home
- set up rules in the Wyze app that whenever the plug named alarm is turned on, all the sirens turn on. Separate action for each camera siren to turn on.
- set up rules in the wyze app that whenever the plug named alarm is turned off, all the camera sirens turn off too.
Now it will work like you want. You can tell Google home “Hey Google, turn on Alarm” And it will turn on the alarm plug which will then turn on every camera Siren. You can then also say the opposite and say “Hey Google, Turn off alarm” and Google will turn off the plug named alarm, which will trigger Wyze to turn off every camera Siren.
There you go, problem solved.
Yes, as I noted above. Creating Automations is fairly straightforward and self-explanatory, but if you need a more detailed walk-through after consulting the Help Center and the Forum, feel free to let us know.
You could do that, too, by following @carverofchoice’s instructions and then creating a Routine in Google Home, choosing your preferred phrase as a Starter.
