Why is the resolution still 2k these days. It’s a wired camera in a fixed location. I know some people aren’t going to wire it in, but as a wired device it should be 4k. Our dash cams have been 4k for the last 7-8 years.
I’m not sure what you mean by that. That’s not how I read 2K (2048×1536) & 1920×1080.
I wouldn’t think so, but I really have no idea. I was just pulling from an official source (though with the realization that official isn’t always accurate).
Having said that, the dimensions in the Tech specs section of the product page have been updated since @dpselect asked about that.
Possibly to keep the costs down, as well as conserve battery. 4K sensors use more juice.
These resolutions are way more rectangular than square. If you display them as almost squares, you either distort the image, or you cut off some areas. The images are obviously not distorted.
Honestly, my concern with 4k would be if they don’t increase bit rate and reduce the amount of compression they do, then 4K would mostly feel like an expensive gimmick that is almost like 1080p with smaller pixels that get less light each and thus do worse in dim lighting than many lower resolution alternatives.
As for why they don’t do 4K, I think part of the problem is that Wyze has to account for cloud uploads and live streaming over the Internet. Most dashcams don’t have to worry about that. Lots of people still have really bad Internet access, terrible routers, and data caps, and mobile service too that could struggle with uncompressed 4K at a high bitrate, would have an extremely bad experience because of it, blame the product, rate it low, etc. Those are concerns not applicable to most dashcams that use 4K because they function either locally on the device or peer to peer on a local connection (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth).
Personally, I think wyze could solve this conundrum because most cameras have more than 1 stream. They could simply have the primary stream use higher resolution and low bitrate and use the SD card locally or with RTSP. Then use the second stream for Internet stuff like cloud recordings and live streaming and continue to do that one in lower resolution or bitrate and high compression. Or just automatically downrate anyone who doesn’t have a stable enough high connection.
Sure, I’m onboard with all that. store 4k locally or second stream. My current dash cam in the wife’s car does the 720 viewing clips on the camera from the app. Then you can download that clip as 4k. My insta360 does 8k but I can stream a live SD stream to the wrist watch sized remote to see the camera view while recording. I have the latest WiFi7 mesh and 10 gig fiber but I understand that’s not the norm everywhere so a solution that works across all scenarios is best to not shortfall someone. 4k for events to the SD card and local view and a lower resolution for cloud streaming.
Do you have a package that has 2 cameras and 1 chime? Or just cameras and no chime?
The Wyze duo package comes with a chime.
@p2788deal, I guess my earlier confusion was with this:
I’m not sure what the antecedent of your “They’re” was, because I agree with this later statement:
That’s my interpretation of the posted resolutions, too.
@trudymcd, does that mean you didn’t already get a Wyze doorbell after our previous discussion? If you want a different color, then one option I like is 3D-printing—either doing it yourself or finding someone else who can do it for you—to fabricate a cover in whatever color you choose, and I especially like this for Video Doorbell v2, where it can also serve the purpose of covering the microSD card access slot, and a design like that can be modified to cover more of the doorbell’s face (with openings for the camera lens and button) and/or to provide a different view angle, which is what I did. I haven’t yet seen any 3D-printed designs for covering the new Duo Cam Doorbell, but the 3D-printing community being as active as it is I imagine it’s only a matter of time before someone posts something like that, once the product has been in users’ hands for a while.
Also, your profile picture makes me grin because two of my roommates are .
By this I mean, what’s showing on the app are 2 almost square images; one of top of the other.
If the 2 posted resolutions are shown proportionally, the images won’t be the same width, and won’t be almost squares.
So I got my doorbell package today, and the measurements are as follows:
Doorbell
L: 5.90" (149.86 mm)
W: 1.97" (50 mm)
H: 1.21"(with back, not corner mount) (30.7 mm)
Chime
L: 3.22" (81.79 mm)
W: 2.12"(53.85 mm)
H: 1.50" (38.1 mm)
BTW, everything works fine so far, just had to get the height a little above the 3.9’ that’s suggested for proper view.
@WyzeJasonJ
Can you confirm if the Duo Cam Doorbell can be linked to the Wyze Lock Bolt? The Doorbell V2 was reportedly not compatible due to not having Bluetooth. Duo Cam Doorbell does. Lots of people are asking this but no clear answer.
It is reported it is compatible with Wyze Lock, but as that is older than Wyze Lock Bolt, users really want to understand if it is compatible, and if not, to help us understand why not, and potentially what the bluetooth is for on the Duo Cam otherwise.
Thanks,
Looks a lot like the Ubiquiti doorbell, at a fraction of the price. Too bad the Wyze version is not ONVIF compliant so it could be used with the Ubiquiti NVR Protect system.
Just installed it and it looks like it does not, only selection is Wyze Lock, not Bolt. Wyze, are you going to add support for the bolt as well? Isn’t the bolt newer than the lock? Figured since they said that it works with the locks it would work with both.
In the AMA on Friday the Product manager confirmed it doesn’t currently support the lock bolt, but it’s possible to connect them (it is capable), they just don’t have any current plans to spend the resources to program that at this time but could in the future.
@Crease Yeah. Guilty. While I gave up on Ring, I just couldn’t go for the wired Wyze doorbell because it was black. Felt defeated. Glad my profile pic made you chuckle. Spent most of my life surrounded by cats though have none now because I developed severe allergies. The emotional attachment to those amazing creatures remain strong however. As regards the doorbell, at 80 yrs old without help, I’m overwhelmed. At least for now. Maybe tomorrow I’ll awake all bright eyed and bushy tailed and feel hopeful enough to give it a try. I’ve bookmarked the link to the cover, just in case. Thanks!
That is about half an inch wider than the V2 which is a shame for my use case.
You are not getting what I am asking. I am asking if there are 2 Separate Cameras, as in ONE Duo cam for the front door and ONE Duo cam for the side door and only 1 chime… I don’t need 2 chimes, Actually I don’t need any chimes,
So is there an option to buy 2 separate cams either with 1 chime or no chime at all?
It’s a single unit with 2 (DUO!) built-in cameras, and the whole package comes with a SINGLE chime. Clear enough?
