Infra red sets off motion sensor

I put up a Wyze cam 4 under a spot light with a motion sensor, not realizing that the heat from an IR camera would set off the sensor. Thew spot light stays on permanently.

Is there a certain distance the camera should be placed away from the motion sensor?

Same applies here as I mentioned in your previous post, trial and error. Try moving the camera slightly lower and see what happens. To prevent drilling multiple holes in your siding, use provided metal washer/ring with double sided tape and just use the magnet to hole the camera until you find a permanent location. The magnet is strong enough to hold the camera in position.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure if there was best practice or guideline. I’ll experiment.

It likely isn’t the heat, it is the IR LEDs in the camera. If you have a floodlight on all the time, can you disable night mode (or at least the IR LEDs)? If it isn’t going into night mode or turning on the IR LEDs then I guess it must be heat, but these cams don’t get that warm and your motion sensor seems to be pointing well over the cam. It could be the wifi or other electrical interference doing it, in which case moving it further away would probably help.

During those solar flares this summer my outdoor motion lights were going haywire, not sure if it was picking up IR light from them or just the electrical aspects of it. I had to turn their sensitivity down until it was over.

I had 2 neighbors where one had a cam with IR lights and the other had a motion sensor light nearby. They two battled constantly, the IR lights would come on triggering the motion sensor light, which would cause the IR lights to turn off, then the light would go off and the IR came back on, and over and over. Had to give them a little explanation of how it all works so they could sort it out.

They are making motion sensors that use RF instead of PIR now but they’re a bit more expensive and a little harder to find.

Thanks for the detailed explanation and possibilities. I never even considered Wifi as a possibility of the interference.

Since I’m a bit more concerned about capturing video, I’d rather not disable the mode on the camera. I might try taking the bulb out of the flood light and using the spot light on the camera as well.

Have you tried night mode off (color night vision)? With that floodlight I’d think it would have plenty of light. With mine I also have it turn on the spotlight on the camera just to get that bit of extra but it captures very good images with just the streetlights.

But I guess if it is switching to night mode, it must not have enough light, maybe that flood covers further away than what the cam is looking at? Give it a try though even if just for a minute to see, sometimes it switches when it doesn’t need to.
