I have had Wyze cams and lights for several years. V3, OG, V4, Wyze lights and wi-fi routers. The app never stays connected to cameras. The SD cards are spotty at best (even the Wyze branded ones I got). Playback and recording is choppy. Live view dies when there is motion. I even got the Wyze branded WiFi router, still the same. I was loyal. I have started switching to a different budget brand and all of those issues are gone with them. I was convinced it was my fault in some way these issue happened because the forums and support all try to make you think that. It’s your network, its your SD card, its interference. None of that is the case. As a nearly 30 year IT veteran, I have determined its underpowered processing on the devices. It makes me sad because I really bought into the company culture at Wyze, I love the form factor of the devices and the concept of the app and software is great. It just fails in execution.
I think the wifi router (and possibly SD cards) may be your root cause. Not something I’d get from Wyze, Certainly not their specialty.
I have mostly the same cams and while I have a couple gripes, not seeing any of the issues that you are.
But obviously if you’ve found another brand you like better, that’s all that matters.
Agree, many better brands and some without the need for a subscription to unhobble the camera![]()
Not sure about the current Wyze SD cards, but the early ones were crap. None of the ones I bought (when Wyze first came out with them) lasted more than six months of continuous recording.
Most experienced users recommend major brand HIGH ENDURANCE cards.
I have had good luck with SanDisk 32GB High Endurance Micro SD cards in Wyze Cam v3 cameras. My oldest SanDisk card has been recording Continously for 51 months.
I have higher capacity SanDisk cards on my shelf, but want to see how long my current 32GB cards last.
I get about 3.5 days of Continuous Recordings with my v3 cameras. I save videos i want before they auto purge.
hi I am also having reccuring obstacles . still tryingto make it work. what brand offer traking like pan cam v3 and noise detection you found?
I have slowly started switching things away from Wyze eco system. Between multiple flood lights. Outdoor pro cam (1 yr old), outdoor plugs and sd card issues. Also they never came out with more than one light switch option. I would rather pay a little more and have something that reliable.
Moved into Homey pro and Home Assistant world with many options and controls.
I am sorry to hear that. I’ve tested several different types of security cameras and they were all crappy video quality wise. I ended up with using WYZE and Ring. Ring is expensive where you have to pay a monthly fee to view the recorded events.
I have found that the pan 360 camera does not work after a short while, so I now use only the v3 and still have the v2 ones. One SD card slot crapped out on me.
If you have a good router and Wi-Fi signal, the cameras will connect with no problem and I love the option of using the SD cards to retain the videos.
If you still want to give them a try, I recommend buying them through Amazon and using only the WYZE SD cards because they are so good with returns, even after the 30 day return policy Amazon will honor the return if you call them and explain the situation.
I found out the pan cam doesn’t work as well as it should but this was a few years ago, unless they have improved it. I just use 2 v3 cameras instead of using a pan cam camera.
I also prefer multiple stationary cameras like the Wyze Cam v3. I have three v3 cameras aimed at my front street (the Top Left camera is aimed at my backyard).
BTW, the Top Left camera is my oldest v3. Both the v3 and the SanDisk High Endurance Micro SD card is the one I mentioned above that has been recording Continuously for 51 months.
I go back and forth. For the area that one of my pans covers, I’d need 3 cams. But on the other hand sometimes it tracks something and I lose sight of the thing I was trying to see.
If I lived in an area with more issues I’d probably have a more expensive hardwired setup with 3 dome cameras (mounted under soffits) covering the area of my single pan cam. But overall, my setup works well for my needs (I do have stationary cams covering some of the same areas of the pan cam), but from a different spot).
Always fun when people look up and see it tracking them too, freaks them out ![]()
It would be nice to have some 8K cams with lossless compression feeding some massive NVR, but just not something I need.
If you check Wyze forum, please share the ‘budget brand’ that you selected as I’m in the same boat about Wyze. I’ve used them for approximately 5 years and like the camera, but not the support or the continued issues. I’m fairly technical and setup Wyze at two homes, so ready to switch but just haven’t identified a good alternative, that doesn’t require monthly payments. Thanks, Bret @ [e-mail address redacted].

Right there with you, I realized how ridiculous it was getting, i have 8 cameras, multiple in the same areas praying to catch events, but even with multiple cameras in the same spot, right next to the router events are missed, live view never works. I’ve tried multiple routers, NONE of my other wireless devices have issues. The software on these cameras is obviously the problem, it’s complete garbage
I have been trying out TAPO. So far, so good.
Tapo is what I have been trying out.
I did the same thing. I have over 30 various Wyze cameras and recently they have been sketchy to see anything on the SD card and they lose connection. I think they diversified way too much and lost what built them…the cameras.
Thank you, appreciate the name.
I have been testing Tapo cameras too. I still like my Wyze Cam v3 cameras on Cam Plus Lite. The 12 second Cloud videos with a 5 minute cool down is perfect for my security hobby. I also have SD cards in all my cameras set to Continuous Recording.
Swiping through Wyze Cloud videos seems faster than jumping to the Tapo SD card. I may be partial to Wyze because I have been using v3 cameras on Cam Plus Lite for over 4 years, so this is what I am used to
I do like that Tapo offers Person, Pet and Vehicle Notifications with no subscription. I plan on using my Wyze v3 cameras as long as Cam Plus Lite is still available. If Cam Plus Lite were to go away, then I would fully switch to Tapo.
For those that want to test multiple camera brands, I can say the Wyze v3 works great side by side with a Tapo C120. Both of these cameras are 1 floor above my Asus WiFi router and at the opposite end of my house. Yes, they both are sitting on a Wyze box to get more height.
Honestly, ever since “the year of the camera”, things have gone downhill quickly.
I think you are right about going downhill in 2023.
If my above post seemed relatively positive might be because I am stuck in Wyze 2022. I have 5 Cam v3 cameras, all bought in 2022 and all still working. Cam Plus Lite is still working the same for me as it did in 2022.
I have experienced some camera firmware and App snagus early on. Now I am late updating Wyze v3 firmware and Apps.
