I need to know what sensors work with what hub

I think I have V1 motion sensor, actually 2. They are a small white cube with a dark dome on the front and the model number is WHMS1.

I also have a Sense Hub, White square device with a gray fabric top and 2 antennae. Model WSHB1. I won’t bore with the details of how I came by them, but it was separately.

Anyway, I think I have one of the sensors linked, with a fresh battery, and I see the hub and the sensor in the app. If I click on the hub, it brings me to the sensor. If I click on the sensor I am presented with a pinkish screen with a flashing lighter circle that increases and decreased in diameter and the word “Motion” in the middle and a “since” date.

I created an animation to turn on a wyze bulb when motion is detected, but no dice.

How can I determine what is bad here? The hub or the sensor. I can’t seem to pair the second sensor with the hub yet. Before I go any further I want to to know this combination is supposed to work

Yes they work together. I have several motion sensors connected to the hub. Post a screenshot of your automation so we can help troubleshoot.

Thank you. I was about to do that this morning but now the sensor is showing offline. I guess the good news is it was being seen before I’ll try and get it back online to day and post a screenshot.

Why do all the instructions on connecting them say to select a camera? I don’t want to connect it to a camera and don’t really see why I would as they have their own motion detection built in.

Now I have to figure out how I got the sensor to pair with the hub again, it was tough the first time and seems to be giving me trouble again. I pressed the reset button on the back and now the hub is showing offline.

The original way of connecting the sensors was via a bridge device installed in a camera. The new HMS hub has the capability of attaching the old sensors.

Wild Bill is right. The original V1 sensors connected (but now can connect to the Sense Hub) a little thin square bridge that pushed up into the back of a V2 camera. V3 and newer don’t have that choice. The bridge and sensor had a finite range. So, might have had to re-connect it to a different camera/bridge if it went offline (and they did often).

The V1 sensors were popular because no one else was making anything. And they are so small you could put them everywhere. The V1 sensor are precious. No longer available, but a few on eBay. They work with the Sense Hub now, luckily.

But the have a design flaw. Generally when the battery ran out, the sensor lost its ability to reconnect to the bridge. That may be why you are having problems with the second one.

Years ago, I bought a dozen on eBay so, I had spares when some failed. I took the battery out of them so they didn’t have a chance to fail until after first use. Made a difference.

@Sam_Bam thanks for adding the background. If I remember correctly, the motion sensors were less prone to the problem. Primary culprits were the contact sensors which readily failed with low batteries.
