I need a cable for my outdoor cam

I have an early outdoor cam that was connected to the solar panel. Somewhere along the way the cable that goes in the back of the camera then plugs into the cable (male) coming from the solar panel got its end (female) chewed off. See attached.

I need that cable. Can anybody tell me where I can get it? The one I need is in the second pic, lying on a bench. The other cable is the one going to the solar panel.

This one? For WCO v1 and WCO V2

Thanks, but no. If you look at the cable I have in the pic you can see the “good” end is the one that plugs into the camera. This also keeps it waterproof. The end that got chewed off connects to to the male end of the solar panel, so it should be a female micro USB connector. The V1 outdoor cam is all micro USB based.

If you need a micro USB extension cable they have lots of styles on amazon and should be able to find one with “boots” for weatherproofing, but just wrapping it in sealing tape will work too (probably better than the boots).

No, that won’t work. I need an exact same cable that I have in the picture with the special end that fits in and waterproofs the outdoor cam. Terminating in a female micro USB cable which has been bitten off by an animal. I can’t understand why wyze, who shipped the original cable with the camera, to me wouldn’t have one they can sell me. I’m sure it pretty has to come from them . It’s very specific to the camera and not something I’m going to find on Amazon. But I do appreciate the response.

I see now you posted basically the same question a year ago and it seemed it was resolved?

As mentioned in that thread, that’s a really old cam and very unlikely you’ll be able to get that part from Wyze, but you can try contacting them to confirm. It looks like you can use a standard cable with that cam but would lose some weather resistance.? Some dielectric grease or sealing tape might help with that, as long as you don’t need to plug and unplug it since that would be a pain.

You could also splice that cable back together, you just need the two power pins and it doesn’t have to be anything fancy since no data is passing. Just make sure to insulate the two wires from each other.

Honestly I think splicing it is your best bet if you still have two usable ends. Obviously if you can solder that’s best, crimp connectors second best, but just twisting them then wrapping it well in good electrical tape (making sure to have tape between the two wires so they don’t touch) will probably be fine, and just put a couple layers of tape over the whole area. While there is no rule, usually red and black are the wires you need, but I can’t guarantee that’s what wyze used for power. If you have a multimeter, you can test to confirm, if not just try red and black and see if it works before you tape it all up.

Another idea - get a short micro usb extension cable, plug it into the “indoor charging port”, then seal up the rest of that opening with caulk? Semi-permanent but should still provide the functionality you need? Most of the cams today come with a short tail leading to a female micro USB connector so essentially you’d be converting your cam to that style. That’s assuming the micro USB port on the cam works the same was as whatever that funky adapter connects to, but I’m assuming it does.

Edit - looks like your micro USB plug on that special right angle thing is damaged (I was thinking it was some special connector). In that case splicing is not gonna help. So caulking around a standard micro usb or just replacing the cam are probably the two options.

You can get one from WYZE if you purchase another solar panel.

How about this?

That’s for the Pan cams. Looks like the connector on the Outdoor v1 is very strange. Not sure if it is micro USB, it looks like something custom. But also looks like you can plug a standard micro cable into it. Bit confusing as I’ve never used that cam so not really sure.

The regular charging cable for the WCO v1 is a USB A Male that plugs into the 5V-2A power adapter and a Male Micro USB that plugs into the back of the camera.

Yeah I’m just going by the pictures (from this thread and from the one a year ago, where by the way OP wasn’t a big fan of you apparently). It looks like there is a separate cable for indoor and outdoor use? I just can’t tell what is on that special cable, does not look like any usb plug so I guess it plugs into some other port on the cam?

If so I guess the options are pretty much splice the cable back together, use a regular USB and try to seal it (assuming it doesn’t need to be plugged and unplugged a lot), or buy a new solar panel.

Though now that I think about it, could just put a short micro USB male to female into the plug on the back, then seal all around the rest of the opening with caulk? Sort of a permanent solution, but it could be removed if needed.

When they were first available the directions for using the Solar Panel and the cable were to Remove and save the rubber cover that goes over the power port and on/off switch. Then use the special micro USB plug. I don’t have a Solar Panel for any cams.

Ah ok, the picture OP posted looked like some sort of custom connector but it looks like the micro USB plug is probably damaged on it, in which case splicing is of no use.

Personally I’d go for the micro USB male to female (6" or whatever) and caulk around it. I guess that still leaves the switch exposed, but could probably cut a notch in the cover or something to allow that cover to still close and help protect the switch…

Or maybe just time to get a new cam, I mean the new ones are a huge step up and we’re not talking crazy money.
