Husband wife steps 14.4% different iOS

Does the step count depend on the person’s size? iOS

scientifically yes.

referring specifically to Wyze products…I do not know specifically.

fair warning…it’s about to get nerdy here.
one the science side.
statistically speaking…males are generally larger/ taller than females. and with that increase, paying specific attention to height, the body staying in proportion would also have longer legs. longer legs inevitably would lead to less steps getting between the same distance for the taller person as one step covers more distance.

in a quick googling I came up with this ratio number for height to gait stride ratio-
On average, adults have a step length of about 2.2 to 2.5 feet. In general, if you divide a person’s step length by their height , the ratio value you get is about 0.4 (with a range from about 0.41 to 0.45

so using that equation you could check on the husband vs wife calculations for the percentage difference in height and see if that correlates to the same amount of different in step counts for each in comparison. that’s if you are math savvy/ motivated of course.

now on the Wyze side of things.

the Wyze product use and accelerometer to measure movements of the wrist. so over all the same calculations are made based on movement. so going just on the there is no difference in how things like steps are calculated. but say John and jane doe went for a walk and were dissimilar enough in height and stride length there would be a noticeable difference even if they walked in tandem and “seemed” to have taken the nearly the same amount of steps. it’s just one of those things that we as humans do not pay much attention too. if you have ever had to march in formation though, think a marching band, or military…it’s something you might be acutely aware of. those differences are noticeable right away.

I hope that give some small insight into those differences :innocent: my inner nerd shall now slowly retreat to the maven cave for a bit lol
