I stand corrected. You can turn on/off a single app.
If you drill into Google Play > your profile picture > manage apps & devices > Manage > click on Wyze > 3 dots upper right hand corner. You should see the following.
Sounds like you may have found that in the settings for the google play store itself, and not in the Wyze app itself settings. You can go the way @ronl4625 explained, or you can do what i do and click and hold on the app icon on your phone, , select “App Info” when the popup shows, then click “App Details” a the very bottom, then click the three dots at the top right and uncheck enable auto updates like the screen shot above.
That’s how I get to it, too. I also replace the regular Google Play Store app on my phone’s home screen with the My apps widget:
Long-press the Play Store icon in the launcher.
In the pop-up menu, press-and-hold My apps, drag it to the home screen, and let go to get a 1×1 launcher widget that looks like a regular app icon.
If I have a regular Play Store icon on my home screen to before starting this process, then drag this widget to a temporary location, remove the Play Store icon, and drag the new widget into its place.
If I didn't start this process with a Play Store icon, then place this new widget wherever is convenient.
Now there's a My apps icon that I can tap on my phone's home screen to go straight into the Manage apps & device screen in the Google Play Store app, and it immediately checks for pending updates when I do so. (Sometimes I have to close Play Store and tap the My apps icon a second time to get it to check for updates, but that's still faster for me than launching Play Store and navigating to updates from its home screen.)
It looks like this:
That makes checking available updates much easier for me, especially for those things (like Wyze app) where I have Enable auto updatedisabled, as @ronl4625 demonstrated.
I don’t allow the Play Store to automatically update ANY app. I have the Play Store notify me that a new version of whatever app is available, but I choose to update or not.
To turn off auto-update for all apps, open the Play Store app > tap your account icon upper right corner > Settings > Network Preferences > Auto-update apps > Don’t auto-update apps
To turn off auto-update for the Wyze app only, either find the Wyze app in the Play Store or long-press the Wyze app icon > App Info > App details in store. Then tap the 3 dots in the upper right corner > uncheck “Enable auto update”.
Sooo , I have been lurking for days , in and out when time allows and I finally found this info …went and turned off auto-updates as above in Google play store .
It’s all about time and Wyze seems to think I have nothing better to do than cancel useless and self-serving updates .
One foot out the door again here . Just gimme a push…
Surrender a credit card number required for APK app installer use… unbelievable !
…need some help here , I’m 70 yrs old and shouldn’t have to be doing this
…much appreciated if there is someone to direct me to an easy app installer so I can get back to familiar and friendly and the preferred 2.50.9.512 Wyze App for Android
2.50.9.512 is not an APK file. It is an Android App Bundle (AAB) and thus requires an installer app. The Google Play Store handles the AAB>APK generation and installation for these file types. But since we can’t get to the 2.50.9.512 app directly (or indirectly via update) from the Play Store via a 32-bit device, we have to install from a mirror site. APKMirror hosts recent apps and updates as .apkm bundles and requires their own flavor of AAB>APK generation and installer app.
And FYI, since everyone is quick to bash Wyze on these types of issues and headaches… Wyze doesn’t make the rules, they follow the rules in order to have the privilege of using the Google Play Store. Google started enforcing AAB requirements last summer which is why the most recent Wyze app in APK format on APKMirror is 2.50.7.487. If you want to revert back to 2.50.9.512 from APKMirror, just download the associated free installer app.
Ok , I get it , your an exec. type , a backer …but Wyze IS making the rules or at least changing the rules for us users , I would have been happy to stay with a familiar and intuitive layout of the Android app …but NO …you people let the bean counter type’s get a bit too much control on what you are trying to achieve here .
Do you really think you are keeping users happy and content ? I pay for Cam+ yet you (Wyze) force advertising on my shared video’s . Just another step to edit out . I didn’t want that , I doubt it was asked for as a community ! Take a poll !
APK or AAB ? What would I know about those terms ? If you valued your client base I would never have to know the difference !
I know here are some types who can’t leave there phones for a few hours a day , I never wanted one in the 1st place , in fact one of the main reason’s I actually reached out and accepted a cell phone was to get some sort of camera security on the property . That was only just 2.5 yrs ago , I can honestly say that I can live without it . Thankfully it was a pay-as-you go add-on to a 2 year contract , nothing fancy . In fact life might be simpler without it . Definitely cheaper !
It seemed to me at the time a cell phone was needed and that is Still looking like a necessity . At least for anything wifi camera based .
I only have 5 wyze cams to crush in the vice , its getting close to that being a celebratory day . I’ll take video’s to share on Amazon and where-ever else I can . It could be block-party type event .
Additionally its very sad , this is all starting to look like a repeat of other service’s I have seen regress over past 25+ years , and I sure did not want to see that happen , hanging on by a thread here …none of this should have happened !
I’m nearly a great grandfather and I don’t take lightly to your "look-down-your-nose " attitude towards me a lowly old-guy who just wants something that I bought in to continues to work and requires less tweaking and updates . What IS the End game anyways ?
Do you people at your inner circle meetings actually think your making it easier or more intuative ? Ask some everyday people to attend .
