I have four pan cams installed inside the house, and two outdoor cams outside. It seems like each hub only allows four cameras to be attached. Do I need special equipment to attach three more outdoor cameras?
Are you connecting your cameras to your Guest WiFi? My Linksys router allows me to select the total number of guests that can connect between 5 and 50.
Maybe check your router configuration settings to see if there is a limit.
The outdoor cams (v1 and v2) allows for 4 cameras to be attached to one base station. To connect more than 4, you will need another Base station.
However, the other camera’s are WiFi only and does not require any hub or base station to connect. Those will connect directly to your router. So, as @StevenA indicated, the limitation will be defined by the router.
I have 83 active devices on my network and another 24 that cycle in occasionally.
Has anyone ever found the definitive maximum number of cams that can be installed?
No as there are too many variables:
- Router
- Bandwidth
- Network provider
- Network Throttling or not
- Location where Cameras are being installed - Basically walls and interferrence
- Other Local Network Congestion
I have heard that some of over a 100 cameras installed, but not sure what the setup is.
I personally have 20+ cameras hooked up at any given time.
Good question though.
I figured you or @carverofchoice would know. Definitely a lot of variables when some people have a problem getting one cam to work.
I am content with 10 cams and other IOT toys.
I agree with Spamoni. Too many variables. I believe Wyze doesn’t set a hard limit. I think they recently said this publicly somewhere that there is no limit.
The problem are other things that will make people have a bad experience long before that.
Including issues spamoni listed, there could also be issues with phone or app resources handling a certain amount well. Some people with older phones have mentioned they found a limit for their phone resources struggling to scroll after they had so many devices installed, while others have more and don’t have that issue.
As spamoni said, I believe I talked to a guy who had over 200 cameras. I have over 300 Wyze devices, but fewer than 100 cameras.
