How do I turn a camera off in App V3?

One of my cameras outdoor cameras doesn’t have a “button” on the screen to turn it off. How do turn it off now?

If you bring up the live stream of the cam and scroll the options below it to the right, is there no “turn off”? I don’t have that model of cam but all mine either have turn off or privacy mode (which is the Pan’s version of Turn Off).

You can add the camera to your favorites so it shows up on the home screen, and it should have a power button there. Or create an automation for it to turn it off and on and add that to the home screen. But it should be available right in the device live view.

Thank you. I was able to find the “turn off” option under the “More” menu, but it’s really odd that on my favorites it’s the only camera/device that doesn’t display the power button. Of course, it’s the one I need to turn off most frequently.

You could create two automations to turn it off and turn it on, and put shortcuts on your favorites for them. Not ideal, but a possible solution.

Or you can create a group on your favorites menu and put that single camera in that group. When you click on the group, you can view the camera and when you’re viewing it from the favorites tab, it should have a on off button on the right side similar to the old interface.

Thank you both, I used the one camera group suggestion to keep it all on the favorites screen. Man, what a convoluted way to manage a basic function!

Odd that the cam group will show the power button but the individual cam won’t (I just assumed the cam group either wouldn’t show it or it wouldn’t work on that cam when toggled). I’m assuming you’ve tested and it works?

Yes. I have that as my new set-up now. Super weird.

Be aware that some Wyze cameras are still using power when Off. Not sure if power consumption is a concern for you when Off. Maybe someone can chime in on if this is the case for an Outdoor camera.

Off is never off, otherwise you couldn’t remotely turn them back on. Still connected to wifi, still maintaining communication with Wyze servers, potentially hackable, etc. Power draw should be very minimal though.

Those that want to be 100% sure should use smart plugs. Of course those maintain a small amount of power draw (don’t think either is a concern though, the amount is tiny) but guarantees nobody can see anything through your camera when “off”. I mean if they hack the outlet AND cam, but that’s pretty unlikely.

Another way to think of it is that the on/off is for the video and audio only, not the camera itself.

The “individual cam”, as in one that is listed as a favorite and is live viewed from the favorites tab? There is a power button for those visible (my doorbell doesn’t have it though, screenshot is from a v3).

Yeah OP has a Cam Outdoor that shows no power button in the favorites apparently, but when adding it to a group it does. Odd. All my cams have the power button when in favorites (OG and Pan v3). They also have it under the individual cams too (but hidden to the right on the OG). Not a feature I ever use anyway but I guess some do. Personally if I had a reason to turn a cam off (and not just notifications which I do with automations) I’d want a smart plug to really turn it off.

Hmmm, one of my WCOs that I have running has the power button.

@jddautel01 , what actual camera model are you looking for the power button for?

Waiting for that glass to magically refill itself?

Don’t remember why I had that one there. I think I had it somewhere temporarily, then as I was bringing it back to my Wyze shrine/storage area I set it down somewhere and saw something shiny and forgot about it. I have been trying to find it. But now that I see there is a light on I can tell it’s in the garage. Lol.

Here’s a screenshot:

Ok. Press the play button to connect to the camera and the power button should appear.

It’s a battery saving feature to not start live streaming right away or connecting to the camera. And you need to connect to the camera to be able to turn it off.

Ex:

Added WCO camera to favorites, and it shows on my favorites tab:

I then click the play button to connect to the camera and start the live stream connection:

Power button appears on live screen screen and is able to be clicked:

That does indeed work, but I have to wait for the live feed to load to be able to turn it off. When I added the single camera group to the favorites, (at the top of the screenshot) I just have to hit the power button.
