Wyze cam V3 uses same power when off as on

I have many wyze cam V3s and wanted to use one hooked to a solar panel with built in battery. I thought I could turn the cam off at night to save power, but after testing with a USB power meter, I realized that the V3 cams use the same amount of power when switched off as when switched on.
To be clear I am just clicking the on/off button in the app. This doesn’t make sense to me. What is the point of switching off it really doesn’t switch it off. I expect some power usage but not the same.

The on/off doesn’t power it off. If it did, then you wouldnt be able to turn the camera back on via the app. The on/off in the app just disables the lens/live view/recording of the camera, but leaves the wifi part on so that it can receive commands.

One option is to use a smart outlet to turn the camera power off and on, but then the outlet would need constant power so that it can receive commands.

I am using my cam in a situation where a smart outlet is not an option. I just thought the cam would go into standby when powered off. Maybe keep Wi-Fi on but have less power usage. Seems kind of pointless to only turn off live view.

I hear ya. This works for some folks and their use cases.
