I own over 30 Wyze products including 5 Wyze Pro Routers spread over two houses, so when I received my 6th Router, I was not expecting it to be a problem. As I was completing my setup, I added it to my Wifi Network Group. A firmware update was then required. After pressing “Update Now”, the app indicated it was updating. After a while the app indicates the update failed and to try again. I have done this multiple times with the same result.
First step - how do I get each of the routers to be listed separately and not in one group. Until I can do this, I will not be able to update the firmware on the new problematic router. I am guessing the update fails because the system is confused since the original 3 routers are already up to date. Do you agree? What are your thoughts?
Interesting idea. I’m wondering that since my root router would be turned off, there would be no wifi connection. Additionally, as I understand it, if one of the routers is “offline” then the update will not go thru. What do you think?
I don’t know as I don’t own any of those routers. You can set up the new router as main router temporary until you upgrade and after turn it back to AP, shouldn’t be that dificult.
The first screen shot shows the group I created that has my routers. I named it JI WiFi Network. I created this group more than 2 years ago so I do not exactly remember how I did it. I think I picked one of the groups on the list you showed, put my routers in it, and then renamed it. The second screen shot shows the four routers in the group; the first root router is partially covered, barn router, office router and upstairs family room router.
1 of your Routers is the Root. The 1 next to your cable box no doubt. The rest are Satellite. They can be wired or they can go over the air. I’m sure you know this since you have a pretty big network.
Here’s what I would do to get them updated:
Turn off ALL Satellite Routers.
Go into Wyze App and update the Root Router. Reboot before you start to clear it’s brain. Keep trying until you are up to date. I’m on the Beta and my firmware version is 1.0.1.21 for my Wyze Mesh Pro 6E Routers.
Once the Root Router is up to date. Turn on 1 Satellite and go through the same process to update it. Don’t turn on anything else until successful.
Repeat until done.
That should make it easier to isolate the issue and allow things to go cleanly.
Ultimate Troubleshooting step is to delete all satellite routers and build the network out, 1 at a time… updating firmware along the way before adding a new router.
If you have to… bring routers in the house and network wire them to the main for the update. Then put them back to being over the air if that’s what they were before.
Thank you Bill and Earl for your comments. I am back at my other location and I see that my two routers (one root and one satellite) seem to be listed exactly the same way as the routers at my other location. These routers, and the original ones at my other location have the latest firmware 1.01.1.21 According to a response from Wyze (below with *** before and *** after), they are indicating that I did not create a group, rather it is the way the App works. They think that the Router might be defective and they are sending me a replacement. I am going to wait to receive the replacement and then try to get this setup. I will provide an update once I do this. Might be a week or so before I get the new router and try this. Thanks again for your comments and thoughts.
I also understand that you’re looking for a way to have each router displayed separately in the Wyze app, rather than grouped together. Currently, the Wyze Mesh Router Pro system is designed to display both the root and satellite routers as a single device on the Network Home tab within the Wyze app. While it may appear that they are grouped, rest assured they are functioning individually within the mesh network. The design of the app reflects the overall network as a whole, rather than showing each router separately.

Hi there Steve,
Thank you for responding. My name is Jayward, one of the specialists here at Wyze, and I’ll be taking over this case on behalf of my colleague.
I understand that you’re experiencing issues updating the firmware on one of your Wyze Mesh Router Pro units, and that the problem continues despite your troubleshooting efforts. I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you. Please know that it’s never our intention to create any frustration on your end, and we greatly appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this.
