I can now report to the forum that I have successfully recovered 1 of my cam pan v3’s with the sdcard issue. It took multiple factory resets and reformatting a brand new 256gb high endurance card with the sdcard formatter software that it would not initially recognize. It’s back in rotation and hopefully long-term. A 3rd cam pan v3 I took out of storage and attempted to use also had the sdcard video not recording issue. The processes used to restore the cam pan v3 that I recovered has not succeeded for this 3rd cam. It operates normally for all other functions.
Since other log ids are being requested per @WyzeMengtingHu, I will hold off submitting one. Hopefully, this issue can get resolved soon. I am going with the thought that this is a hardware issue as 1 cam pan v3 on the same firmware version has not had any sdcard recording issues. Unfortunately, this experience has put a strong damper on me considering the duo cam pan (which I really don’t need).
Are you recording “Continuous” or “Events Only”? I’m recording “Events Only” and I don’t have that problem.
Presumably we have the same firmware and same app revision. The hardware didn’t change; it was working before. The only difference (if you’re recording “Events Only”) is the back end.
I only do events recordings on my cams. App and cam fw versions are the latest. The cam that I have never had this issue with has a 2024 activation date, the problem cams have 01/2023 and 06/2023 activation dates. The former date was successfully recovered after much effort; the later date cam refuses to recover despite the same efforts. Cloud recording good because of subscription, sdcard a complete failure.
I continued to troubleshoot the cam pan v3 that had this issue with not recognizing sdcards. What I have discovered is perplexing. After pulling out several spare sdcards I have from 32gb to 256gb, it recognized and loaded a Lexar and Team Group 128gb card. It did not “ding ding" with the Lexar card but did with the Team card and both were available. A Wyze 32gb card was among the ones denied.
@WyzeMengtingHu requested a log submission but with this new results, I don’t know if it would be beneficial.
I also get that—the complete lack of the card insertion tones—sometimes with my problematic Cam Pan v3 and a known good card (known to work in a Cam v4, for instance). I did another fresh --overwrite format with the SD Memory Card Formatter on such a card and plan to try that again before submitting any new logs on this issue.
@WyzeMengtingHu, thank you for engaging here and looking into this!
I also use the SD Card Memory Formatter with the overwrite feature. It did not change the results. The Lexar and Team cards that did get recognized were previously overwrite formatted on my PC with the Windows format tool. Good luck!!
Sorry for the delay in replying. I’m not ignoring your request.
To start from a known state I’ve reformated the SD cards in two cameras, restarted the cameras, and now we wait. As soon as the issue arises (usually a couple of days, or sooner), I’ll submit logs from both cameras.
Regarding reformating SD cards, often when this issue occurs and I try to reformat the card in the camera using the app I get the “Operation failed” error posted upthread. So what I’ve done in the past is take them out and format them with the sdcard.org utility on a PC (actually, different PCs each time, but that makes no difference).
Next, I put the card back in the camera and reformat it again via the app, because I just figure that perhaps formated by a Wyze device is best for use in a Wyze device. But that probably does not matter.
More recently I’ve noticed that if I eject the card from the Wyze app, and pop it out and re-insert it, I can then reformat it in the camera without the “Operation failed” error.
For whatever it’s worth, I’ve also seen the failure message when trying to format a card in my problem Cam Pan v3. I don’t think reformatting within the camera should make any difference, but I also don’t imagine it would hurt or make the situation any worse (unless something in the reformatting process causes the camera not to recognize the card at all, which kind of seems like it might be the case sometimes here).
While I don’t recall trying to reformat the card after ejecting and reinserting it (though I can’t be positive; I’ve tried a lot of things with this camera), I have recently experienced that the camera sometimes doesn’t even recognize the presence of the card the first time I insert it. I’m not getting the “ding-ding”. Removing and reinserting the card again (sometimes more than once) has sometimes gotten the camera to actually “see” the card.
I don’t always get the “ding-ding” either, but even when I don’t I always see the card’s presence in the Wyze app SD card settings after inserting it in the camera.
As the images show, the card has been recognized by the camera but is not recording the images for playback to the sdcard. It is displaying a count of the number of images but failing. This is brand new sandisk 256gb high endurance card that failed to install and then reformatted with SD Card Memory Formatter and multiple factory resets of the cam. The pan v3 is beyond the 1 year warranty and I am not going to waste anymore time.
@WyzeMengtingHu@enting.sung as I am now back to square 1 with the cam and sdcard recognition and sdcard recording, I’m writing this off as a defective camera issue that won’t be replaced because the cam is 2 yrs old. Useless for me to submit a log. I might consider replacing next sale and although the location is ideal for the duo cam pan, I am not ready to get one yet.
Not sure how long you have been a Wyze user, but I came on board in late 2018 early 2019? I have seen many of these type issues. Hardware failures that can’t be addressed with firmware upgrades is not a strong point for Wyze.
Yes, that is correct. I have never recorded in continuous and have never had this issue. I have a 2nd pan v3 in service now set to events and it works fine. I will switch this cam and report the results.
@WyzeMengtingHu I can concur with @bryonhu that the issue exist also with continuous. Same label with number but no video to playback. I can also report that the sdcard status is showing the same data used number after several hours further identifying that no video is being recorded by the camera.
From the screenshot, since it’s event-recording only and the timeline indicated that it was in between events, essentially there’s no recording hence “no video available“ is expected. However, if the issue still exist with continuous recording, and we can get a log for that, I can ask team to look into it and see if we can reproduce it. Sorry about the experience, trying to help here. -Mengting
