Just asking. The instructions on iPhone App are clear enough … but after that it is a weird mix of iPhone, QR codes, the website , chat bots … etc. Meanwhile the doorbell itself unit is blinking and talking … apparently unable to scan the QR code. And of course … it is now after 6PM … so I am out of luck until tomorrow. Would be nice if I could do the install on my schedule … instead of their schedule.

I’ve installed a couple of them with an Android phone, and I wouldn’t expect the iPhone experience to be much different. What specific question(s) do you have about the installation process?
When scanning the QR code keep in mind you have a fisheye lens on the cam so move your phone closer and further until it scans. I would think doing it at night would actually work better but I guess it depends how bright your phone screen is.
Edit - to add to what @crease mentioned (not sure if it is covered in that topic) make sure you don’t have zoom enabled on your phone, or if you do ensure it is not enough to be cutting off the QR code. You may have to disable it temporarily.
If you think the issue might be with the way your iPhone is presenting the QR code to the camera, then you could also try changing some settings as discussed in this topic:
I believe some users have also reported taking a screenshot of the QR code and then opening that in a viewer app to show to the camera.
Reminds me of recently having to set up an authenticator app for a company I’m working with now, but due to using a 3rd party device, the only way to get the QR code was on my phone. And the authenticator app is on my phone……
Ended up taking a picture of the phone screen with my PC camera then scanning it with the phone. A bit surprised it actually worked…
If it would have allowed scanning with the front camera, I think a mirror would have worked, since I think the “selfie camera” reverses stuff anyway, but it wouldn’t allow switching cams.
Thanks … I will try that … in the morning. Meanwhile … with all this authentication … seems like that it might be useful if they were to authenticate if the installation instructions actually worked.
Cannot get the doorbell to scan the QR code. Presumably all one has to do is hold the phone in front of the doorbell camera. Tried various distances … various lighting … all to no avail. And then I see that the QR code is only valid for 5-minurtes … so I did it all over a second … and third time … no joy.
If the advice from iPhone users in the topic I linked above doesn’t help, then do you have a different device you could try using for in-app setup?
You can also try searching the Forum for topics related to iPhone use and QR code scanning if you haven’t done that already. The one time I’ve had issues with QR code scanning and a Wyze device, it was my problem child Cam Pan v3. I haven’t touched an iPhone for years, so I won’t be able to provide specific help with that platform, but thankfully you tagged your topic for iPhone/iPad use, so hopefully that will recruit input from iOS/iPadOS users.
Apparently the key is to hold the iPhone ridiculously close to the doorbell … then it can scan the QR code. And by close … I mean only 3 to 4 inches from the doorbell camera. That never occurred to me …
- There is no mention in any of the instructions about holding the QR code immediately adjacent to the doorbell.
- The “normal” working distance for the doorbell is 2 or 3 feet away (at the closest) … it seems very odd to hold phone up to the doorbell.
But there you have it … that was the solution (at least for this install).
Once the doorbell was able to scan the QR … the rest of the install was relatively painless.
Yeah, that fisheye lens will mess with you. Most cameras will be around 6 inches but you need to get closer with those. I probably should have specified, hold it right up to it then slowly pull backward.
Normal working distance is for a face or person, the small QR code has to be closer.
