I bought my cameras long enough (2018) ago that I was able to get into the legacy program when WYZE started charging for the services that we were told would be free. At one point the detection zone was a grid and you could select and deselect areas that would be monitored by the camera for a notification purpose. Recently it’s been changed on these version 1 and 2 cameras that you can’t do this anymore, You have to adjust a single area (rectangle) for the camera to monitor for movement - so if there’s an area that you don’t want monitored, you can not unclick that area.
As one of the earliest people to purchase these cameras and as a person who has recommended this product for years to numerous people who subsequently bought these cameras, I am disappointed that WYZE has removed what we expected would not be taken away from us. Disappointed to the point of considering a different product for fear of having more disappointment with WYZE and their lack of respect for the early purchasers who for years have bought and recommended this product to make WYZE what it is today. PLEASE ALLOW US WITH V1 & V2 CAMERAS TO ONCE AGAIN HAVE GRID DETECTION ZONES instead of a single rectangle for a detection zone,
Sounds like you are running a rather old version of either the app or firmware. That was fixed a couple years ago.
No, not the case … just got off the phone with WYZE SUPPORT and they checked it out for me and I was informed that it had been removed in one of the updates and that this forum was one of the best ways to get WYZE to address it. But, thanks for the reply anyhow.
An app update did just come out, and it made a lot of changes with some of the newer cams. But no idea why they would have reverted that on the older ones. I’m guessing maybe it was unintentional?
Unfortunately them directing people to this forum is sort of a “get you off the phone” strategy, this is mostly just fellow users…
I’ve noticed they’ve also been pushing out firmware updates to all the cams but it seems to just be a new security layer and not functionality related, but again maybe they somehow included some old code when they did that…
There have been some cases where uninstalling and reinstalling the app (or if you don’t want to go that far, clearing the cache in both the app and on the phone’s OS) can help with strange app update related issues. Just don’t do this if you’re running the 2.5 app as the only way to reinstall that app is manually using an APK file.
There seems to be something weird in your setup.
I have no V1 cameras, but I have 3 V2 cameras, which are all on the latest firmware version (4.9.9.30060), and the detection zone screen has a grid of 16 horizontal by 9 vertical squares, that I can individually turn off/turn on to set the detection zone.
This is the same detection zone setup for my Pan Cam V2, V3, Pan Cam V3, OG and V4 cameras.
Old working code getting obliterated when adding new fixes, this has always been a Wyze tradition. I’m an outsider so I can only guess why this happens. The first possibility is that the Wyze software team isn’t using a good source control utility like git/github.
But even if you have such a utility in place, it’s possible that its developers aren’t familiar with how to use it properly. Things like code branching and merging branches can leave out important, working code.
Then there’s regression testing …
I still have a V2 camera with firmware 4.9.9.3006 that I use because I need one with no color night vision. Its detection zone is still working OK. Can you check what firmware your V2 is on?
If it’s current, maybe try rebooting it. And your phone as well.
My two v2s on firmware 4.9.9.3006 both have the standard detection zone boxes on them.
My V2 camera and the app on my Android phone are running the most current firmware version: 4.10.9.3006 and the grid detection setting is gone and it is now just a rectangular box that you could adjust. Very disappointing as there are several areas within that rectangular box I’d love to deselect because of waving tree or bush branches constantly setting the camera alert off.
Welcome to the forum, @spevman .
I have a v2 with firmware 4.10.9.3006 and its grid detection zone is still active, but I have had the problem you describe (and similar) with a couple other v2s. I retired them as it appeared after much effort that they were cam-specific edge cases.
They need some sort of process to completely wipe the cams, load the firmware fresh from SD card, and ensure no settings are inherited from the cloud. I believe that may have actually been possible back in the days when the wyze mini hacks worked fully.
From various threads here it seems some issues somehow get "stuck’ in specific cams and don’t have any relation to firmware or app version…
I sure wish we could find a fix for this as it’s certainly is a pain when I have a tree that sets the camera off on windy days and I can’t do anything about it. Thanks for all the suggestions so far - I’ve tried the suggestions but I’m still not able to get the grid back and don’t really want to buy new cameras while these still work good except for this issue. Very disappointing.
All of my Wyze Cam v2 cameras are Firmware Version 4.9.9.3006 and they have the same issues as my v1 cameras.
As a follow up to the previous post by me, ( Grid selection for Detection Zone removed from V1&V2 cameras ), I am seriously disappointed in this product due to the recent changes affecting the Legacy purchases. If it wasn’t for us believing in this company and listening to them promise Lifetime Free etc., etc., most of us wouldn’t have bothered buying their product in the first place and without sales, where would this company be now? It’s clearly evident that WYZE hasn’t considered the important role the early customers played in getting this company up and running!
When I phoned them about this problem, I was told to air the issue on this WYZE forum where their WYZE support staff would see it and possibly make changes to the updates and allow us the grid type detection zones we’ve been previously using with our V1 & V2 cameras. Now I’m wondering if that wasn’t just a ploy to get me off the phone. If any changes are made to provide us with the grid type zones it would certainly change my current opinion of this company’s dedication to its Legacy customers. I used to tell people what a great product this was and how outstanding the company was - Change my mind and make me believe that again!
My recollection is a little hazy now, but either there was no detection zone before, or the original detection zone wasn’t a grid but just a regular box.
I’ve been wondering why my WCO has been going off more than normal.. I just went to check my own, I’m on firmware 4.48.4.427 and yeah my detection zone ability just complete gone. Why would this feature ever be removed… that is beyond disappointing.
Ive had my Wyze cam Pan v1 since 2020. I recently had to do a complete reset and upon installing tge latest firmware, which I had to flash from an sd, I too discovered my detection zone was no longer a grid but one huge rectangle. This does not work for me at all due to motion lights being triggered by the wind etc and setting the cam off all night. Im upset but jot suprised with Wyze at all.
Yet again Wyze is screwing over their OG customers just to make more $. I say this from experience since the first time I had trouble with my cam (right after the warrenty expired) I had to go through 13 different agents before they would even acknowledge my issue and not just gell me all the same things the troubleshooting did. After foing through another 10 agents and all togther about 100 emails they just stopped replying to me.
I have two WCO v2’s on the 4.48.4.427, one is missing the detection zone setting, the other has it available.
The one that is missing it, is showing 0 percent battery, so I’ll pull in to charge in the morning, and report back if that camera is still missing the detection zone setting.
My 8 WCO v1s (4.17.4.427) are showing the Detection Zone, except for one v1 that appears to be at 30%, but I can’t reach it, as it’s offline, so I’ll retrieve that one in the morning as well, charge it up and see if it Detection zone returns to the menu.
What battery level is your WCO that is missing the Detection Zone at?
I have two V2s, and interestingly enough, they are both on 4.10.9.3006, one of them has the grid, the other one has the resizable rectangle.
I’m running Wyze App 3.6.0(2) on my iPhone and Wyze app 3.5.0(2) on my iPad, and Wyze App v3.5.5 (669) on a Android phone.
I factory reset/flashed the v2 with the Detection Zone issue, and it did not resolve the issue.
My two V2’s both have Firmware 4.9.9.3006
Log: 1893281 - V2 with Rectangular Detection Zone
Log: 1893289 - V2 with the 9x16 Grid Detection Zone
My WCO v1, and v2, are now charging and above 0% and they both now have the Detection Zone setting available to them.
