Ha! Just had this idea and came to post it but see it is already here.
So what I would buy outright:
Wyze cam with 360 degree lens that mounts under the door opener pointing straight down to see complete garage. Has wired connection to opener button contacts.
App camera view has open/close button. Sensor on door to report current state if camera is out for backup confirmation of door status.
I saw many inventive hacks to do all of this, but if wyze had this in a package I will buy no question!
I’d love to see Wyze come out with a universal interface to control garage door openers. I have the cameras, contact sensors, and now the Wyze locks and I think a garage door opener would be an awesome addition to what I can do remotely from my phone when I’m not home.
No it won’t open. The plug is normally off. Because even when you open/close the door it turns on and then back off. If the power fails and then comes back on, the plug holds its last state. So if it was off before the power failed, It will be off when the power returns. I have tested this and it works by simply unplugging and plugging it back in to simulate a power flicker
I think Wyze should seriously look into R&D of a garage door opener that replaces the button on the wall in the garage, and allows opening/closing from the app. It would be best if the replacement still had a button, but could also be triggered from the app manually or from an IFTTT rule.
Electrically it should be easy, the button is just a momentary switch that completes a circuit signaling the garage door opener to go up or down.
Based on my own searches, this is a very sought after DIY project with no ideal solutions.
Combined with the Wyze contact sensor to tell the app the door is open/closed, it’s the perfect solution.
Well I think the easiest solution (because WYZE would not make a switch closure only receptacle) is to use “Anmbest 2 Channel WiFi Inching Self-locking Switch Module”, which can be found several places, to include E-Bay and Amazon,
The 2 channels work independently for 2 garrage doors, using their IOS app, which is IFTT compatible.
Mounted this in a box from LeMotech 5 Pieces ABS Plastic Electrical Project Case Power Junction Box, Project Box Black 3.5 x 2.8 x 1.1 inch.
Simple, quick, safe and can be used for many other low voltage projects.

It would be awesome if Wyze had a garage camera & controller feature that would allow you see if your garage door is open or closed and then be able to close or open it remotely (Anywhere in the world).
Maybe have an existing camera sync up with an add on like Wyze plug type device that you plug your garage door unit into. Make it modular so that you could add additional plug in devices for multiple doors but only need 1 camera.
Update… I had to get a new garage door opener and picked up a Chamberlain MyQ garage door opener. Their app has a “Works with…” section and it seems they are very willing to partner with many different companies. May be something worth looking into on the software end, an interface in the app to work with Chamberlain’s MyQ
I’d love to see Wyze build a garage door controller like what Garadget has built as far as interfacing with an electric garage door opener. The Garadget solution of bouncing a laser off a reflective surface isn’t great, but if it was paired with Wyze contact sensors it’s be amazing!
A simple transmitter you can put within range of the existing garage door receiver. That way the existing controller doesn’t have to be replaced. Basically just integrate a universal garage door opener with a wyze plug. Instead of the relay kicking on the plug, it initiates a signal to the garage door opener. You can integrate that with the door sensor.
I used the smart plug to fire a relay and used the relay to simulate the garage opener pulse thus I’m using the smart plug + the relay as a garage opener but had to add some extra rules to only send a pulse from the plug which is all I needed to get myself a garage opener…
That being said it would be nice to have a device that can just provide either a set of contacts (NO and NC), these contacts can be used in so many ways, it could have saved me from having to get a separate relay to build my garage opener
In case you are still searching…I purchased a shelly 1 relay switch which has a dry contact relay and am using this to control my garage door. It is a very cheap option. I am trying to us it with my wyze contact sensor via the new IFTTT Pro to notify me if the door is open, but I haven’t found a way to do it.
maybe can have a trigger that auto raises like the wyze lock when you are in Geo fence area, and possibly have door lock trigger when garage door is opened.
