You may have a faulty controller then. I would contact Wyze to see about a replacement. They may run you thru some verification tests:
I havenât seen a reply to this request. I see so much info about schedules and how this can be accomplished, but with no details. I am interested specifically in this ⌠can we close the door automatically after itâs been open for x amount of time? The Wyze Lock does this, but the controller doesnât.
I bought the Wyze garage controller thinking it would have auto close after 5 mins or something like that ⌠any progress in this? It seems like it should be a simple update.
Or has anyone been able to do it through a third party app using the notification that comes after the door has been open for 5 mins?
Welcome to the user-to-user community, @jessedlamb ! It has been 2 years since the last reply on this one.
To answer your question, there is a rule for that. âIf Garage Door has been opened for 5 minutes, close the garage doorâ.
But warning: Most garage doors (all of them?) do not have a âCloseâ function. They have a âreverse what isâ function. So if open, and you press the button, it closes. If closed, and you press the button, it opens.
The way Wyze determines whether the door is opened or closed, and thus needs to âreverse what isâ, is by using a QR code that you stick to the door. So, if it sees the QR code in the calibrated position, it considers the door closed. If not (even off by an inch), it considers the door open (at least partially, which some people do).
Thatâs perfect for normal operation, but letâs consider some issues with that. If you donât calibrate the position in settings, the door is always open. If, like me, when you open your hatchback on your car and block the QR code, the door is considered open. If you donât engage IR lights at night, or if you position the camera too far from the QR code, the door can be considered open.
When a misunderstanding occurs, you may not end up with what you expected.
If like me, you garden in your worn clothes without house keys in your pocket, you might get locked out of your house. Or, if at night, the door may open rather than close.
I donât personally recommend anything this iffy, and it is this iffy on all vendors. Wyze provides a reminder function to tell you if the door has been open for 5 minutes, so I recommend you use that. Then use that reminder to manually verify the door is open, and close the door yourself.
I do not see a rule like this, @Newshound, where do you see it?
Thank you
